I knew Duane mostly after high school when he stayed at one of the dorms at the University of Minnesota.   I guess I made a pest of myself going over to his room for lunch and endless games of "500" in the evenings.  Duane was very tolerant of myself and other guys who hung out in his room.  He smiled readily and put up with all of us quite gracefully.  If that can be said of a young man in his late teens/early 20s.

I probably knew Duane as wll as anyone other than Greg Werlein.  Greg W., Greg Walden and Chuck Gramith and I played cards throughout high school on saturday nights.  When I moved into Territorial Hall a month after the start of my sophmore year at the U of M,  Duane and Greg W. lived down the hall from me.  We played a lot of Bridge that year often non-stop from friday PM to sunday night. with different players moving in and out.  I also double dated with he and his future wife. She was a classmate from Robbinsdale with the girl I was dating at the time.  I entered Dental School at the U the next year and lost track of most of those guys because our schedules were so diffewrent.  I was saddened to hear of his passing from Scott Hansen last summer.  He was a good friend..
