It's always somewhat of a shock to learn of the passing of someone I knew as a teenager. I knew Larry as a scrappy kind of guy who always seemed to be sure of himself.. I believe he was in my English class in A-2, Mrs Boersma?
In an odd way, it' as if no time passed between then and now.
It's good to remember him in that way-guess I always will.
Larry was one hell of a character. We grew up together from elementary school at Battle Hill through WPHS. He was fearless and unforgetable in everything he did. Not a big guy, but that never stopped him from asserting himself, if you know what I mean. He and I seemed to constantly to be at odds, but in the end we respected and cared about each other. I knew Larry always had my back, as I his.
Larry went on to join the Navy and served as a gunner on a PT Boat on the rivers of Viet Nam. I have no doubt he served with distinction. Never saw him much after that, but if I could, I would love to have a beer with my friend and hear his stories. Rest in Peace, Larry. You were truly one of a kind.
