Cheryl Starks (Grantham)

Cheryl S. Grantham

December 01, 1946 - September 18, 2021

Cheryl S Grantham from Billings passed away September 18, 2021, at home. She was loved by many.

Cheryl was born December 1, 1946, in Bonners Ferry, ID to Lloyd Richard Starks and Alvira Phipps Starks. She graduated from Whitefish High School and MSU in Bozeman, MT with an RN degree.

Cheryl was a retired RN, who worked most of that time at the Billings Clinic (Deaconess Hospital). She loved helping others and always had the desire to be a nurse.

Cheryl loved helping others and put others before herself, even stray cats that showed up at her house! She was a crafty person and enjoyed knitting and sewing. She loved the beach (any beach) and spending time there; was a traveler; gardener and reader. She enjoyed rafting with Justin, watching the hot air balloons that her daughter Kelli helped with, and cheering Jamin on in the strongman competitions. Cheryl was so happy to finally get a grandchild and spending time with Jackson was one of her greatest joys.

Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents, aunts, and a few cousins. She is survived by her three children all of Billings Kelli, Justin, Jamin (Theresa); grandson Jackson; two step granddaughters Riley & Morgan; her sister Donna Rae; various cousins from all over; a niece and several nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Billings Vineyard Church, 1413 Rosebud Lane.

I miss my "eldest favorite cousin" as she loved to call herself. She was such a unique soul, so perceptive and kind. She never hesitated about asking about the truth and the difficult questions in life and death. I will miss our long conversations and ideas on how to change the world. The world is a darker place without her bright spark!

I worked with Cheryl on 3rd floor at Deaconess as my 1st nursing job. She had the best laugh and was a great preceptor and was always willing to help co-workers.

I have known Cheryl for over 30 years. A life spent helping to ease the suffering of others is a virtuous one indeed. The world was a better place with her in it. Goodbye you fine...kind woman.

I first met Cheryl when I started work at the then Billings Deaconess Hospital as a new RN in 1977. She was a great mentor, and always happy. We both remained at work somewhere in the hospital, and I loved running in to her once in awhile. She and her smile will be missed... Cheryl Lenox

Cheryl was a mentor for me when I was a brand new nurse back in 1996 at the then Deaconess Hospital. It wasn’t long ago that I was remembering her warm and generous spirit, and how kind she was to this new grad (and everyone, for that matter!). I truly hope I took the kindness she taught and paid it forward to others. She has definitely touched many lives through her work. She will be missed!!

You'll notice in Cheryl's picture that her hair is black. Whenever someone commented on her gray hair she'd say "my hair is black". We had so many laughs at work and Whenever we went out to lunch after we both retired. She always had the best gossip. I will miss her so much.

I met Cheryl when my husband was being treated for cancer at the Oncology center. She was such a caring nurse and became a good friend during this time. It was always a joy to see her whenever our paths would cross at garage sales. She will be missed a lot. I am so sad for your loss.

I worked with Cheryl for many years in Oncology at Billings Clinic (Deaconess Hospital). I can’t remember how it started but she always called me “Old M Lou” , which was always good for a chuckle. She had great tips for getting the best deals at garage sales! Above all she was a valued colleague and caring nurse. I will miss her. Mary Lou Simmons

Sending you lots of hugs and prayers! I remember the great joy and pride your beautiful mom would share each and every time I would visit with her at school about you, Jamin. She was always so proud of the man you were becoming. What a blessing she was to those who were honored to know her.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Cheryl at Billings Clinic ( yes Deaconess in those days) She was an educator and taught me everything I needed to know about ports even though I wasn't with the clinic anymore, she took the time for me as an old friend. I will always remember that deep slow chuckle and brilliant smile. Sincerely, Carol Whittle, RN
