NEUKOM, Karen Karen Knight Neukom, beautiful wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully on January 2, 2016 after an extended illness. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on October 3, 1949 to Reuben and Florence Knight. After a wonderful childhood, Karen graduated from Wichita Falls High School, which she proudly referred to as "Old High", in 1968. After high school Karen attended the
University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. On a blind date her freshmen year she met Steve, with whom she would spend the rest of her life. Following graduation, Karen and Steve were married on May 27, 1972 and after short stints in Cincinnati and Shreveport, the growing family settled in Richardson, Texas. Karen was an active member of the community and had a lifelong commitment to helping others including years of service at Children's Medical Center, the Richardson
PTA and in recent years, weekly volunteering for Meals on Wheels. In addition to her volunteer service, Karen spent many hours cheering on her three kids, and in later years, her grandchildren, at their many activities. She was a lifelong Longhorn fan and one of her most cherished memories was attending the 2006 National Championship game at the Rose Bowl with her family. Decorating was a passion for Karen, and it was evident in all of her homes. She found a certain thrill in finding that perfect antique for the perfect space or beautifully wrapping the perfect present to put under the Christmas tree. Another passion was traveling, especially to her favorite city, Paris, but also to places closer to home such as Possum Kingdom Lake and Eagle, Colorado where she and her family enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing and games of dominoes. Karen was the epitome of grace, style and class. She was a faithful friend, devoted mother, loving wife and a proud grandmother. She will be forever in our hearts. Karen is survived by her loving husband Steve and their three children: Noelle Neukom Schmidt and her husband Steve; John Knight Neukom and his wife Kaci; and Kyle Stephen Neukom and his wife Kristen, as well as her brother Robert Browning Knight and her sister Chrissy Knight Doherty. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Charlie Schmidt, Ellie Schmidt and Knox
Neukom. She was preceded in death by her parents Reuben Brown Knight and Florence Hudson Knight. The family would like to especially thank Dr. David Griffith at UT Health Northeast for his care and compassion in treating Karen during her illness. A Mass to celebrate Karen's life will be held on Wednesday at 10 A.M. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the
