David Lee Gordon was born March 23, 1955 to the parents of Joe Gordon, Jr. and Lillie Mae Lee Gordon in Wichita Falls, Texas. He departed this life on Friday, May 29, 2015. He blessed us with 60 years of his guidance, love, and everlasting support.
He met the love of his life, Miss Georgia Ann McDaniel, and the two were married on January 14th, 1977. He absolutely adored his ‘girlfriend’ as he called her and they enjoyed thirty-eight years of marriage. The couple raised two sons, Priest Jabari Gordon, and Jelani Linje Gordon.
Mr. Gordon, as his students knew him, served as a Physical Education/Health teacher at Kate Burgess Elementary then later at Washington Jackson Math Science Center for a total of 14 years. In 1992, he joined the Region 9 Education Service Center as an Education Specialist where he traveled around the state coordinating numerous educational programs. He retired in 2011 after 33 years of service to the community. After retiring he became an independent consultant and counselor to various organizations in the surrounding areas.
Most of all, David loved the Lord and preaching God’s word. He was baptized into the faith at Welch St. Church of Christ and was a faithful Christian. He served as Assistant Minister there and coordinated many of the church ministries. He devoted himself to doing God’s work and being there for people when they needed him. David prayed daily that he could be a blessing to God, a blessing to his family, and a blessing to the church. David was all of these things and his laugh, enthusiasm, and endless encouragement will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife: Georgia Gordon of Wichita Falls, TX; Children: Priest Jabari Gordon (Angela) of Lakewood, CO; Jelani Linje Gordon of Wichita Falls, TX; Grandchildren: Anya L. Gordon & Josiah L. Piercy of Lakewood, CO; Siblings: Lois O’Quin (Tommy Jr.) of DeSoto, TX; Sallie M. Sanders (Herman Jr.) & Joe L. Gordon of Wichita Falls, TX; 2 Aunts; 5 nieces; 3 nephews; and 3 cousins.
The services for David L. Gordon are as follows: Viewing is 6-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 at Welch St. Church of Christ. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 4th, 2015 at Edgemere Church of Christ under the direction of Wells Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O.
