Jan Parker (Fussell)

The following is the obituary listing from the Times Record News:

Jan Parker Fussell, 58, of Dallas, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in Dallas, TX.  She lived with a great passion for her music, her students, and her pets.  Over the years, she brought home dozens of stray cats and dogs even in a rainstorm.  She nurtured these fur babies until she could find them a safe home.

Jan received her degree in music from Midwestern State University.  This was followed by her career as music teacher to elementary school children in the Dallas Ind. School Dist.  Among many other achievements, Jan was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2005.

During these years, Jan also performed as a jazz singer at several venues around Dallas.  She expressed her unyielding love for Dallas and wrote both songs and poems honoring that fair city.

Jan is couragious and a hero to all who knew her.  Her generosity is legendary.  Her spirit is a pure as pure can be.  She will remain an inspiration to us all.

Jan is survived by her mother, Dorothy, brother, Steve and wife Kris along with their children Brad, Jeff and wife Mary Kendall, and Leigh Ann and husband Matthew.  She is also survived by her dear friends, Kim, Cindy, honorary sister, Eda and pets Venus and Bravo.

Memorial services were held in the Bluegrove Cemetery in Clay County under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.
