The first day in Mr. Meler's soph biology class (i.e. the first day of Rider's existence), I was in a room full of strangers, having transferred after Zundy.  Mr. Meler called roll, and when I heard ChrisPowe, I responded 'here'.  Later, when I heard Powe, I responded 'here' again.  Later in that period, Mr. Meler called on Johnny.  Johnny wasn't there.  Hilarity ensued :).  RIP, brother, thanks for your service to our country.

Johnny Crespo and I were friends during high school even though we were also tennis partners of modest skills.

I once visited Johnny in Corsicana on a trip from Houston to Dallas. He never offered me fruit cake.

Johnny was a very enjoyable person. We laughed and had wonderful times together and I am sad that he cannot be with us for our 50th reunion.

I too was shocked to learn of Johnny's death this year. I had lost track of him after my parents were transferred from Falls during my sophomore year at Tech. I guess we tend to think of anyone that decent going on forever. Unfortunately it does not always work out that way.
