07/26/09 04:32 PM #132

Chrissie Palmer (Palmore)

think of all of the classmates that have passed on who would have given anything to have been around for this 30th! life is too damn short and such a gift! i think we should be grateful for whoever wants to come and spend that kind of money (esp in this recession!)please, lets just focus on being together for this milestone.. we may not get a chance at another!?

Lourella Farrell (Calkins)

Wow, I have not been in the site for a long time and was a bit bummed that this is what's going on in the forum, thought at this point in our lives we would be doing nothing but exchanging fun/great things happening in our lives and I have to say ROCK ON Chris Palmer Palmore for your comment about life being too short--at this point in our lives we should be thankful and enjoy those that want to re-connect. Thank you to those who have worked so hard in putting this soire' together and I hope that all that want to be a part of this celebration join us and wasn't high school over in 79!!!!!

I know I plan to be there and look forward to seeing everyone that wants to partake.

Janna Parker (Kaba)

I am kind of shocked that this is such a hot topic.
I agree with Chris and Lou that life is too short
and we should be thankful to be able to spend time
with as many people as possible.
I have been on the committee(prior to this one)
and know that these people have spent a great deal
of time planning these events, in an effort to
please everyone.
To the reunion committee,remember as hard as you try you can't please everyone. Unfortunately one negative comment is more powerful than a hundred positive comments.
Terri, I hope that you can see that your "pot stirring"
has created such turmoil and wasted this great forum that
has been done for us all to use. This is a fantastic
tool that Carrie has spent so much time on as a way to
break the ice before we even get to the actual reunion.

By the way Carrie...THANKS!!
I am so looking forward to getting together with
everyone.
And on to more important things...what's
everyone going to wear!! ;-)!!

Jana, LOL
My true belief is that there will probably be no more than a few class members there from 78 anyway so this is really a none issue.
Hot pink boxer shorts w/purple dinosaurs, green slacks, and a white shirt with stripes.

Dana Haskell (Armstrong)

I agree with Jeff...lets change the subject and move on!!

07/27/09 10:15 AM #137

Janna Parker (Kaba)

Wow Jeff...glad I asked I WAS going to wear the same thing!!

07/27/09 10:22 AM #138

Monty Crozier

OK to all of the class of 78 you will have to wear your name tags. lol and not wear them upside down unless i am standing on my head. what about some of our class mates that married some one from the class of 78? anyway like mrs armstrong said lets move on.

07/27/09 12:34 PM #140

Carrie Alford (Loofs)

Russell - Thanks but I think you and Jeff and anyone else from '78 should work together to coordinate your outfits!!!

Carrie ;D

I think the more people we get to see the better. Life IS short, so we should enjoy old friendships and maybe make a few new ones!! It will be a great time.

This poem is worth the read!!

The Class Reunion

Every ten years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
Make plans to attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met;
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.

It was quite an affair; the whole class was there.
It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined,
And everyone thought it was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,
Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

No one had heard about the class nerd
Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain;
She married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed "most apt to succeed"
Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted "least" now was a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

They awarded a prize to one of the guys
Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven
The farthest to attend the feast.

They took a class picture, a curious mixture
Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini;
You never saw so many thighs.

At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores;
We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade,
In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fortieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait; they've set the date;
Our fiftieth is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my hearing aid;
My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled;
And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party
I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one
Other person who can make it that night.

I feel like Russ and I
kinda started this bear,
so please let this be the end of it.
If not,
the boxers I wear
might just be the extent of it!
and this my friends would not be pretty
even if the boxers are cute.
for the shorts are short and they don't quite cover,
that thing we know as the flute.

And this Jeff is why we want you at the reunion!!!

Chrissie Palmer (Palmore)

ok now i am laughing at the posts again... thanks guys! and that poem would be even funnier if the part about the fiftieth 'having to boil yer teeth' weren't only 20 years away! OMG, remember when we thought that 30 was over the hill?! now i look at someone turning 55 and say "man, you are pretty young, still!" yikes! and louella.. YOU ROCK! can't wait to reconnect with everyone! i want to say to carrie also 'thanks so much' for all your work on this site! its awesome! i have really enjoyed reading everyone's posts..

07/27/09 10:20 PM #146

Chrissie Palmer (Palmore)

and also thanks so much for the planning committee. i know tons and tons of hard work goes into everything we do. if i was there, i would definitely be more helpful! just know that most of us really appreciate all that you are doing, even if it doesn't get said enough!

Carrie Alford (Loofs)

Oh Jeff - that was a hoot! So true too. I remember the 10th reunion and it WAS much like was described in the poem. Who made how much, who was driving what and who did everyone marry?
It's just not that way anymore. Almost all of us do not look like we did in hs. We've all had our share of ups and downs and are better humans for our trip down the lane of life.
Who cares whos bald, chubby, rich or poor? At this point, we care that we're still here and able to enjoy an evening with our school friends!
Thanks Chris and Janna! I've worked many hours on this site. Took it on myself and sometimes have wondered if I over-stepped. It's not MY reunion or site - it belongs to each and every one of us to enjoy ;D

Now - what are you wearing Janna??? After reading the poem, I'm thinking jeans and a nice blouse ;D Maybe even barefoot because I doubt I'll find those ankle high white go-go boots for Lari!

Being this is my first time on the message board, forgive my ignorance about proper message board protocol, but I feel like I've been morphed (not necessarily drug induced either) back to the halls of South High. "Who is such and such dating...did you see Randolph kick the crap out of Guiterez from West at McDonalds Friday night...I like the homecoming queen, do you think she thinks I'm a dope?" Come on now, we are adults (2 or 3 times over). If my cousin Vinny shows up from the class of '68, who cares. This, in essence, is a social gathering directed at people at the same stage in life, going through the same traumatic things (acne, poor fashion, bad judgement, boarderline grammar, etc...),just so happens in the same place (South High). So let's fast forward back to 2009 (wow...don't ever let me morph like that again without liquid courage), which is a time of fond reflection with "friends" from an era that made us what we are today (good or bad). I can't wait to see anyone from the class of '78 because quite frankly I want them to know how much older they look than I do (just a joke Russ & Jeff). There is too much "you fit in that box, I fit in that box" going on in our society. My idea of a good time at this year's reunion is each of you telling me your stories (feel free to embelish, because know that I will) and me telling mine. Can't we all just get along...please somebody give me a hug!!! Oh by the way I'll be the one in knee-high tube socks, a cut off sports jersey showing off my less than desirable belly button, high water jeans...and oh yea...my Farrah Fawcett wall poster turned into tiddy whities. Hey, I love you all and can't wait to see everyone. By the way, we have a "Reunion" Golf Tournament slated for Saturday, September 19 at McDonald Park starting at 8:15 a.m. Entry fee is $50 (green fee, cart, prize fund). Let's have some fun Titan family!!!

I would like to encourage everyone to stop by a Davis Moore and sign the petition to keep Donald Wacker in prison. He received a 16 to life sentence in the kidnap and rape of Nancy Shoemaker in 1990 and he is up for Parole this October. Doyle Lane received Life in prison for the Murder of Nancy and is also on death row for the Rape and Murder he committed with his so called dad of a little girl in Texas.
Let's keep this guy in prison and away from children.

You can also get a petition at the Parents of Murdered Children website.
www.POMC.com
In the upper left hand corner click on blue square that says petitions.
Child rapist Donald Wacker is Approx. 40 names down or three up from the bottom. Print one out and have everyone on your block sign it. If you don't want to mail it in just let me know when you have it full and I will pick it up.

For those of you that don't remeber the case, it happened in our old stoppin grounds at the corner of Pawnee and Seneca
Thank you!

Hey Les -- I'm a little weirded out about "you can't get the image of me out of your head." There is a 12-step program for everything you know...

Hey Pam -- Speaking of "Buzz Kill," what the hell are you thinking about...you're in freakin Hawaii & thinking about us knuckleheads back home...shame on you, now go put your Don Ho tank top on and take a walk on the beach with your hubby Jay (you have good taste in men's names by the way)!!!

Hey Carlson -- I'm going to show up Saturday morning at McDonald Park with my "hula daddy" beater shirt that Pam is going to bring back to me from Hawaii!.!

yeah, this really has been a buzzkill! talk about 'if you don't agree with what "I" am saying- i'm taking MY toys, leaving and won't play anymore'! what happened to stating your opinion and then listening CALMLY to others opinions and coming to a conclusion that shows off exactly what an adult that you've become over the years! it just reminds me that some people feel they don't have enough drama in their lives.. for God's sake.. there is still a war going on with people dying and a recession that has people deciding whether to eat or to buy their medicine! priorities people! its a REUNION. live and let live. (party and let party?!!) this is so much like high school. sigh. ok, now i am ready to move on.. see you all in september!
