Timothy Barker, passed away May 17, 2014 from prostate cancer.

Barker, Timothy Lee, age 53, of Wichita, passed away May 17, 2014. The celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Round Barn Ranch, 9449 S. Woodlawn, Derby, Kan. Tim was born April 28, 1961, in Wichita, to James Lee and Mary Joanne (Smith) Barker. He graduated from Wichita South in 1979 and lived in Wichita and the Burden/Atlanta, Kan. area. Tim married the love of his life Debra (Shumate) Buttry on Aug. 30, 2013. He enjoyed woodworking, creating custom cabinets, building homes, gardening, Paddlefoot BBQ, and all animals. He was employed at Rick's Appliance in Wichita for 11 years, Brownlee Heating & Air for two years, Lindly's TV and Appliance in Winfield for two years, and was the electrical maintenance lead at Boeing/Spirit in Wichita for 23 years. He was a former president and member of the IBEW. Preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Pamala Moyer. He is survived by wife, Debra Barker; sister, Susan Barker of Claflin, Kan.; stepdaughter, Georgetta Hunter; grandchild, Vanessa Carey; mother-in-law, Donna Shumate; brother and sisters-in-law, Austin and Nancy Shumate, Gail Shumate, Wanda Woodward, Glenda Shumate, Cynthia Raborn and Justin Barrow; several aunts and cousins; friends, Rachel and James Brown; and many others. Tim was one that some may not have remembered from High School. He spent most of his last two years in Vo-tech. He was an electrical whiz kid and spent most of his time building, experimenting and inventing whatever contraption he thought up at the moment. Later in his life he developed a complex SCADA and controls network at Boeing/Spirit that still leaves me scratching my head at times and wishing he was here to explain WTF!!!! :-) I spent more than a few 'interesting' times with Tim in the early years that came back to haunt me later in life. I reunited with Tim 12 years post graduation as we both ended up as electricians at Boeing. We worked together for years and I have had the wonderful experience of being his manager for the past 3+ years... That is when those 'interesting' moments of our past would come to haunt me as he would love to share some of those times at the most UN-opportune moments during my crew meetings... He loved to torture me but one of my stars at work :-) Tim passed away three months ago from PC.. but through his battle and even in the last moments of his life, his courage, humor and only thoughts of others was an inspiration to not only myself but to all those he touched. Tim was an amazing intellect with a down to earth attitude.. I want to be like him when I grow up. Chris
