Edward L. Blackburn

Edward Laverne Blackburn of Camarillo CA went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at the V.A. Hospital in West L.A. after a brave and lengthy battle with cancer. Ed was born in Springfield, Mo., on Oct. 26, 1942. He attended Wichita High School East, class of 1962. He joined the Navy in 1962, where he served as an electrician until 1963. After the military, Ed lived in Oxnard and then Camarillo, working as a cabinet maker, restauranteur, real estate, and automobile investor. He loved working on vehicles at his yard in Santa Paula, searching endlessly for the best price on parts. Finding a great deal brought a huge smile to his face. However, nothing made him happier than being in the company of family and friends. Ed worked tirelessly to provide and care for those around him, often making great sacrifices so that others' needs were met. Ed is survived by his mother, Dorthea; son, Eric; daughter, Cara; son-in-law, Jeff; and grandsons, Carter, and Abbott, all of Camarillo. He was expecting the birth of his third grandson, Oliver Edward Gin, in May. He joins his father, Charles, and brother, Duane, in Heaven. He left a legacy of joy and kindness and is greatly missed. All are invited to a service in celebration of Ed's life at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, at Camarillo Christian Church, 1777 Arneill Road, Camarillo, CA 93010.
