Sylvester Marshall Jr.
June 17, 1956 - September 6, 2015
Reflection of Life Sylvester Marshall Jr., of Wichita, KS, passed away on Sunday, September 6th, 2015 at the age of 59. He was born in Oklahoma City on June 17, 1956 to Sylvester Sr. and Nadine Wade, and soon became known as "Baby Brother" to all of his family. Sylvester graduated from Wichita East High School, class of 1974, and then enlisted with the U.S. Army to serve his country for 9 ½ years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for more than 28 years as a mail handler in the U.S. Postal Service until his declining health made it necessary for him to retire. Sylvester married the love of his life, Diane Sherman, and they recently celebrated 37 years together. The love they shared includes daughter Jessica and son Sylvester III, both of whom he was so very proud. He worked hard to provide for his family and gave them unconditional support and encouragement. Sylvester was a sweet, loving, soft-spoken man with a big smile that could brighten anyone's day. He was a good listener and gave great advice. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was also a huge fan of sports, especially the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team, faithful to the end. Preceded in death by his father Sylvester Sr., mother Nadine Law, stepfather Ezekiel Law, sisters Glenda Sue Maultsby and Lisa Earnest. Sylvester leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Diane, his daughter Jessica, his son and namesake Sylvester III, his sisters Charlene Patterson and Deborah Scott, a host of relatives and many friends, all of whom will miss him very much.
