Kathryn Nell "Katie" Maxton

May 4, 1956 – March 22, 2015

Kathryn “Katie” Nell Maxton, 58, passed away on March 22, 2015. Katie was born on May 4, 1956 to Robert E. and Patricia K. (Gleeson) Maxton in Wichita, KS. Her positive nature, love of music, and talent for playing the guitar made her a wonderful first grade, and later on, reading teacher. Her students enjoyed her creative lessons during her 28 years of teaching, in Derby, KS before retiring.
Katie was an adventurer at heart. She loved to camp, hike in the mountains, and spend time by the lake. She instilled that love of nature and adventure in her daughter, Jennifer Nell (Maxton) Devers by taking many mother/daughter trips to Colorado, and hiking Pike’s Peak and Mount Elbert. Later in life Katie would find peace spending her time at the lake where she enjoyed walking, camping, and the beautiful scenery.
Katie was preceded in death by her father, Bud. She is survived by her Irish mother, Pat, her daughter Jenny (Chris), two grandchildren, whom she adored, Lucy Nell, and Gabriel Cooper, her brothers and sister, Mike (Wanda), Patrick (Hui), Jim (Karen), Danny (Cindy), Molly (Anne), and Charlie (Eden), and many wonderful family and friends.
Services as followed: Viewing, March 26, 2015 from 6-8pm in Derby, KS at Smith Family Mortuary. Funeral, March 27, 2015 at 10:00am in Mulvane at Smith Family Mortuary followed by burial at Mulvane Cemetery.
