OBITUARY

Kathleen "Kathy" A. Garrison

OCTOBER 23, 1956 – JUNE 10, 2021

Kathy was born in Wichita, Kansas on October 23, 1956 at St. Joseph Hospital. Kathy was the first-born child of Helen L. Garrison and William E. Garrison. She attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from East High School in 1974.

Kathy was an only child for 2 years before she was blessed to have two younger sisters Connie and Lori whom she considered two of her best friends; she loved being the big sister. Kathy spent many summers with her parents, grandmother sisters and friends going camping, traveling and just having fun! She loved family!

Kathy’s first job was at Leekers grocery store and she worked their several years as a cashier. In 1979 she decided to listen to her father’s advice and apply where he worked; Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (SWBT)! And, in 1979 she got a job as a Service Representative and that is where she gained a whole new extension and concept of family. Kathy worked as a Service Representative in many different areas at SWBT/AT&T and in 2012 she retired with over 32 years of Service.

Some of Kathy’s hobbies included, cross-stitching, making diamond art, word puzzles and her beautiful adult coloring book pictures. She loved watching sports, particularly basketball and football. She loved attending many Wichita State University basketball games with her family, was a big Boston Celtics fan back in the day and was a Dallas Cowboys fan! Oh, and there was never a Marvel movie that brother-in-law Andy, nephews Drew and Collin and their buddies went to without aunt Kathy! Thanksgiving tradition for Kathy, Connie, Brianna, Gaven and really the whole family was the Harry Potter movies and good food. Another hobby that Kathy enjoyed was collecting Precious moments figurines.

Over the years, besides her family, Kathy had a soft spot for cats and she cared for and loved them dearly. She especially loved calico cats. Her last three cats were Tiger (her favorite) Moto and Carly.

One of Kathy’s greatest joys was her sister Connie and (brother in law) Andy’s graciousness to let Kathy love on their children unconditionally! When her oldest niece Maranda was born Kathy was over the moon, then came more joy with nephews Andrew “Drew”, Collin, and another niece Brianna on board. She fell madly in love again with the youngest addition to the family when Maranda’s son Gaven was born. Being able to go through life loving on her nieces, nephews and great nephew was a blessing and Joy for Kathy; she was the Auntie-Mama extraordinaire and she loved her family dearly!

A great pleasure for Kathy was planning holidays and vacations with Connie, Andy and the kids. She was the detail person and made sure that everything was in order; hotel, flights, restaurants, and anything else to make the family trips and holidays fun and enjoyable.

After retirement she continued her planning skills by organizing a bi-monthly luncheon for her friends at SWBT/ATT. Everyone looked forward to finding out when and what restaurant they would gather to catch up on each other’s life events and laugh while enjoying a good meal.

One of Kathy’s favorite things was going out to eat at one of her favorite restaurants. Outback or Sumos were her favorites, but just being with Connie, Andy and the kids for a good meal and great quality family time was always the best gift her family could ever give to her.

Sadly, Kathy left this earth bound for Heaven on June 10th, 2021. She will be missed by many who loved her distinctive laugh, quick mind and wit, generous, sweet and fun spirit.

Kathy was preceded in death by her much-loved parents and sister; father William E. Garrison, mother Helen L. Garrison and youngest sister Lori Garrison Sperry.

Left to cherish Kathy’s memory with love and admiration; her sister Connie Edwards (Andy); niece Maranda L. Edwards, nephew Andrew “Drew” W. Edwards, nephew Collin R. Edwards, niece Brianna K. Edward, great nephew Gaven M. Raver and a host of friends that were also like family.

A celebration of life for Kathy will be held Friday, June 25, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel, 12100 E 13Th St N, Wichita, Kansas 67206.
