Mike lived down the street from me. I had a crush on him but I kept that secret. I babysat for his little sister a few times, and met his parents. Mike was so smart--he rarely studied yet he got mostly A's. It broke my heart when Mike sustained a serious head injury that affected his memory and learning abilitiy. He was out of school for a long time afterwards, but finished senior year to graduate. I wanted to know Mike better, both before and after his accident, but I was too shy to approach him. I've wondered about Mike over the years. I wish I'd had the courage to talk with him, especially after his accident. He probably needed friends at that time.
