History of Southeast High

Wichita Southeast High School opened in September of 1957 with 1578 students and a faculty of 70.  It had 66 classrooms, one auditorium, cafeteria, library, and two gyms.

A major addition occured in 1968-1969 increasing the classrooms to 98.  Also, a mezzazine was added and the ceiling of the library was heightened.  The student size increased to 2480 and the faculty increased to 108.  

In the fall of 1988, all ninth graders were moved to the high school.

In 1992, a classroom was converted into a black box theater for the drama department.

In 2004, a new wing was constructed at the south end of the building.  This was specifically for science and foreign language classes.

In 2015, all students and staff moved to a new location at 127th Street East and Pawnee.
