Esther Opfer (Teacher)

Opfer, Esther L., was born Aug. 11, 1926, and passed away Sept. 7, 2014, with her daughter at her side. She was owner of KS Seismic Exchange and a former English teacher. Esther was a member of BPW winning a National Speech Contest and being named "Woman of The Year." She was also active in Geologists Wives, Petroleum Wives and UMW. She loved: playing bridge, tennis, pickle ball, gardening and most of all being a cool grandma. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer "Lucky"; son, Kip Chase; parents, Ray and Anna Lamb; brother, Lloyd Lamb. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Hageman; grandson, Chase Hageman; brothers-in-law, Larry Opfer and Ray Opfer; sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Lamb, Mable Bogenrief, Anita Opfer; and nieces and nephews. Visitation with family 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and funeral service 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, both at Resthaven Mortuary. Memorials may be to YMCA of Wichita Women's Crisis Center, 1111 N. St. Francis, Wichita, KS 67214.

Joan Stovall (Umbarger)

 

 

I loved Mrs. Opfer's English class.  She was an inspiring teacher and lovely role model. She

was one of several excellent teachers who motivated me to become a teacher.

I remember the delightful Patty Wood was my classmate.
