Albert West Jr VIEW PROFILE


 

Al West, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023, at his home.
Born November 16, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Albert Houston, Sr. and Helen Olga (Shorter) West. The family moved to Cookeville, Tennessee for a short time and to Wichita, Kansas in 1952. Al was raised and received his education in Wichita, graduating from Wichita West High School. He then attended Wichita State University.
Al worked at Boeing and CAC Tool Corp. Albert was united in marriage to Shirley Kae Langley on July 2, 1977 in Wichita. The couple made their home in Winfield where Al co-founded Galaxy Tool Corporation in 1985. Al served as President until retiring in 2003.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a very active member of the Winfield Country Club and was Club Champion, Senior Champion, and Super Senior Champion, and served on the board for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as a young man. He also enjoyed bowling and was the first person to bowl a 300 in Winfield. He loved to golf and could be found golfing numerous times a week until his health began to fail.
Al's family includes his wife Shirley West of Winfield; his children, Darrin West and wife, Shelly of Wichita; Angie Fleisher and husband, Craig of Suwanee, GA; Todd Slade and wife, Donna of Winfield; Scott Slade and wife, Lisa of Round Rock, TX; Jason Slade of Wichita; his sister Carol Reed of Wichita; his five grandchildren, Jeffery West, Matthew West, Zach Fleisher, Austin Fleisher, Kieren Fleisher; his great grandchildren, Paige West, Sawyer West, Addison Sparling, Amelia Fleisher; and four nephews and two nieces.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Lowell West.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 26, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Al's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
