Lula Oliver-Louden

 

Lula Oliver Louden, beloved wife, mother, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away on November 20, 2023, at the age of 61. She was born to the late Charles and Alice ‘Corine” Oliver on January 7, 1962, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Lula lived a life with love, faith, and service to others. She was a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse, having worked at Eastern State Hospital for nineteen years, touching countless lives with her caring nature and healing hands. She also served as a driver for Curbside Service Company, always going the extra mile to help and support those in need when she was able.

Beyond her professional achievements, Lula had many passions that brought joy to her life. She was an excellent cook, delighting her family and friends with her delicious creations. Lula also had a remarkable gift for music and loved dancing and worshiping the Lord. She found solace in singing praises to the Lord as a Psalmist. Her favorite song, “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” encapsulated her unwavering faith and trust in God’s guidance. Lula was an active member of The River Church Toano, where she found spiritual nourishment and a sense of community. She cherished her time worshiping and growing in her faith alongside her fellow church members.

Lula also held her high school years “dear” at Lafayette High School in Williamsburg, Virginia, graduating in 1980. She completed her nursing education at Lafayette School of Nursing in 1981, furthering her commitment to caring for others. Lula is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice “Corine” Oliver, as well as her maternal grandmother, Emma Berkley Jones. She leaves behind a legacy of love to be cherished by her husband, George Louden; their son, Sean Lawson; their daughter, Makaylah Louden; her brother William “Bubba” Griffin and her spiritual son Divine Fraser. Additionally, she leaves behind six sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, and a host of beloved cousins and friends. She will be deeply missed by all.

Lula will be laid to rest at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, ensuring that her memory remains forever intertwined with her beloved family members. Lula will be remembered as one who brought inspiration, love, and comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her faith, selflessness, and unwavering spirit will continue to guide and uplift us, reminding us to live each day with compassion and kindness. May her soul find eternal peace, and may we strive to honor her memory by embodying the same love and grace that Father God bestowed upon her and to each of us.
