"HOGNESTAD , HANS , 57, of Miami, passed away on Nov. 21, 2008. Hans was born in Urbana, IL, and grew up in nearby Glenview. Hans graduated from Dartmouth College in 1973. He was a technical and information specialist throughout his career. His real work was his ministry to children. As the beloved "Mr. Hans " he taught Sunday school for many years at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Coral Gables. In addition, he served the Lord Jesus as a chalice minister and lector. Hans ' true love in life were his wife and two daughters Marta and Ana. His great joy was spending time with his girls. He is survived by his wife Carmen, daughters Marta and Ana and mother Sheila."

From the Miami Herald.

I sold Hans a motorcycle in college, in 1971.  He was a nice guy who drove a hard bargain.

Hans was not a "typical" classmate.  He had a European suave and a David Niven-like esprit de corps. It was as if he might be comfortable in an ascot.  His walk and his speech were measured and with a cadence that was deliberate and reserved. A deep thinker with a terrific sense of irony and a keen sense of tragedy. He was a natural after dinner speaker.   I was there at Smith College when he met his first wife.  She was a classmate of the woman I married--at Smith and in their high school. Hans remarried and had kids and lived in Florida.  But I was no longer in touch with him by then.  I hoped to reconnect at the last reunion when he popped up on the In Memory board. A terrible loss of a multi-dimensional terrific guy.
