Kenneth A. Armstrong, age 75, of Sparta, passed away on August 26, 2024, after a short but valiant fight with pancreatic cancer at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born on February 11, 1949, to William and Ruth (Wood) Armstrong in Winona, Minnesota.
Ken grew up in Winona, where he set a record at Winona High School for the longest touchdown-a record that still stands to this day, a testament to his athletic abilities. After graduating, Ken was drafted into the Marine Corps, serving his country during the Vietnam War with honor for four years. His commitment to excellence continued as he became a proud graduate of the Oklahoma Farrier School, which led to a fulfilling career.
For 22 years, Ken worked as a farrier on the grounds at the Minnesota Pinto Horse Association, a role that showcased his skill and dedication. He also served as a foreman at Badger Foundry, where his leadership and work ethic were greatly valued.
Ken's interests reflected his kind-hearted nature; he was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need, friend or stranger alike. Fishing was his solace, providing calm and joy throughout his life. Ken's generous spirit and friendly demeanor were the highlights of his character.
He is survived by his loving wife, Terre; his daughter, Cassandra (April) Armstrong; stepchildren, Amelia Von Haden, Alicia (Daniel) Suessmith, and Nicholas (Katilyn) Von Haden; six cherished grandchildren; and siblings, Lynn (Bud) Mrozek and Gary (Natalie) Armstrong.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth Armstrong; and his siblings, William Armstrong Jr. and Dawn Pruka.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Mount Vernon Cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. The Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
