Jack Runnion died April 15, 2005 at Fitzgerald Health Center.
Jack was a graduate of the UNC-Chapel Hill and the Wharton School Instit of Investment Banking. After serving in the US Air Force, he joined Wachovia Bank in 1952 as a mangement trainee. He served in the Trust Investment Dept unjtil 1962, when he became manager of the bank's investment portfolio. He was elected senior vice president and named manager of the Bond and Investements Dept in 1967. Jack was well known among bankers and Treasury and Federal Reserve offcials. In the early 1970s, he pioneered the development of a sophisticated and efficient model for asset-liability management. He became executive vice president and head of the Financial Mgmt Div in 1977. In 1980, he developed the variable rate mortgage. In 1990, Jack retired from Wachovia as vice chairman of the board of directions and chief financial officer with 38 years of service. He was founding director of the Pubolic Securities Assoc. and was a member and former chairman of its Government and Federal Agencies Securities Committee, which advises the secretary of the Treasury on financing the public debt, which is currently known as the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee of the Bond Market Association. He was trustee and chairmanm of the board of College Foundation Inc. of NC, former chairman of the board of the NC MNunicipal Council, Inc., and former member of the Reserve City Bankers Assoc. He served as director of the following companies: Wachociva Bank & Trust; Security First Network Bank, Recognition Equipment Inc., Cardinal Bancshares, Depository Trust Co., and Atlantic Capital Management. He served on the board of Forsyth Country Colub and was a member of Roaring Gap Club. He had a rewarding second career as an insurance broker, forming an affiliation with his friends, Ken Miller and Bob Long of Long Miller & Associates. He remained active serving on the Board of Trustees of Senior Services, Inc, Hospice, and S1 Corp.
