William Joseph Griswold, 80, of Southern Pines, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at The Village Chapel, in Pinehurst.
Mr. Griswold was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Durham, to James Bryan and Eleanor Erwin Griswold. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University. Although originally from Durham, he blessed the lives of many people while living in Lynchburg, Va., and Mount Airy, before retiring to Southern Pines.
He was a very active member of the churches in the towns in which he lived throughout the years. He enjoyed his professional careers in both the banking and textile industries while finishing his career with Wachovia’s bond department in Winston-Salem. He touched numerous lives with his caring personality and will be missed by all of those fortunate to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Allen Murdock Griswold; and his brother, the Rev. James Bryan Griswold Jr. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Griswold Reuer; his daughter, Elizabeth Griswold Marshall, husband Michael and their children Zachary, Alexandra, Victoria and Caroline; his two sons, William Joseph Griswold Jr., wife Martha and their children, Joseph, Benjamin, John Allen and Laura Bryan, and James Bryan Griswold II, wife Paula and their children, Bryan and Smith; and his sister-in-law, Martha Murdock Gay and her husband, H. Hamner.
While he touched the hearts of many people here on Earth, he is now resting comfortably in heaven reunited with his loving wife, where they will continue watching over all of us.
