Henry Holsapple

 

 

HOLSAPPLE Henry Taylor Holsapple, 95, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1912, at Hudson, N.Y., to Frank Burdwin Holsapple and Louise Caroline Livingston Holsapple. He was a graduate of Kent School (1930); Harvard College (A.B. 1934) where he played lacrosse and 150-pound football; and Harvard Law School (LL.B 1937). A World War II veteran, he served on active duty as commanding officer of USS LST-560 in the South Pacific, participating in landing operations in the Philippines and Brunei Bay, Borneo. He received a commendation for his services and, at his retirement from the Naval Reserve, had attained the rank of commander. He practiced law in New York City before and after World War II and served as a trust officer at First National City Bank (Citibank) before moving in November 1962 to Winston-Salem to vice president, Trust Department, Wachovia Bank, retiring in June 1977. He was a member of St. Paul' s Episcopal Church and a former member of Winston-Salem Rotary Club and Old Town Club. He enjoyed playing golf, surf fishing, playing the keyboard and pursuing his long-standing interest in genealogy, publishing "A Genealogy of the Holsapple Family of Columbia County, New York, 1725-1994." He was predeceased by a son, Merritt Curtis Holsapple; and his brothers, Frank Burdwin Holsapple Jr. and John Livingston Holsapple. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ann Hamilton Curtis Holsapple; his son, Peter Livingston Holsapple, and wife Sarah; grandson Webb Curtis Holsapple and granddaughter Maggie Jane Holsapple, all of Durham; granddaughter Miranda Victoria Cowsill Holsapple of New Orleans, La.; and a sister, Dorothy Holsapple of Rhinebeck, N.Y.
