ARMSTRONG III, Willis Willis Armstrong - a courageous, strong-willed and good man Willis Frierson Armstrong III, 47, of Atlanta, died peacefully Sunday after a valiant 12-year battle with brain cancer. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and a leader in his field. He was born Feb. 28, 1966, in Nashville, Tenn. He moved to Florida when he was a newborn. He attended Park Maitland School and was a 1984 graduate of Winter Park High School, where he served as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was captain of the wrestling team, winning several honors while on the team. He also played football, ran track and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was also an active member of Young Life and at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park, including many years as acolyte. He graduated Auburn University in 1988 with a degree in Building Science. While at Auburn, he was president of Sigma Chi and also an honor student. He worked in Orlando for Brice Construction, where he was honored with being the Project Manager of the Orange County Public School Administration Building at age 23 and Orlando's beautiful Church of the Latter Day Saints temple at age 27. He moved to Atlanta to join Choate Construction Company where he was vice president until his early retirement this fall. Mr. Armstrong was known as a hard-working man who loved God and his family. He was the kid who gathered neighborhood kids for pick-up games. He always set the rules and sometimes changed them. This self-reliant and dependable man was also hilarious. He would have loved to hear the stories that are being told him now, about the time he performed Shakespeare with a Spanish accent in eighth grade or the time he and some friends built a raft out of a fence and tried to get across the lake. He was highly competitive and full of energy. He was not one to back down from a challenge, beating family and friends at chess, spades and hearts till the end. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He took on the Appalachian Trail as a teenager and traversed across Europe a few times in his younger days. He married his college sweetheart, Lesley Wagner, in 1992, and the two celebrated their 20th anniversary in August. He adored his son, Alex, and daughter, Annie. He is survived by his wife, Lesley Armstrong and children, Alex and Annie Armstrong, all of Atlanta; his parents Amy and Arthur Hall of Orlando, Fla., and WillisArmstrong of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; his siblings, Alex Armstrong and Linda Dean Armstrong of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Elizabeth Armstrong Sims and Tom Sims of Winter Park, Fla.; his niece and nephews, Morgan and Keegan Armstrong and Thomas and Will Sims. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/atlanta/obituary.aspx?pid=163498036#sthash.24qeLbgF.dpuf
