Tex Johnston

Tex Johnston

Gennie Johnston asked that I post this announcement of Tex's death:

"Tex (Cliff) Johnston passed away February 21 in Colorado. He had battled bulbar onset amyothrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for many months. Per his request, the family will hold a private funeral in Colorado. There will be a celebration of his life later this year in Wooster, OH. Gennie wishes to thank classmates for all their thoughts and prayers as well as cards, notes, texts and phone messages. Best, Gennie"

As a class, we extend our sympathy and condolences. As one classmate stated, "He was a good man." An able and dedicated leader, he led our class up until the very end. DJ

I was very saddened to hear of Tex's passing, not being aware of his illness.  He was a guy who had a smile for everyone.  We had talked at the 50th reunion, and he had mentioned how much he enjoyed his hunting & fishing adventures out here in MT.  Brother Rick had met up with him a time or two as well, being closer to where Tex was camping.   Deepest sympathy and prayers to Gennie and family during this time.

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news about Tex. Gennie, may God be with you in special ways during these sad days. Tex was a great classmate and all of us have special memories of him that we cherish. I enjoyed re-connecting with him at our 50th Reunion. He mentioned that he enjoyed traveling through Nebraska and watching the Sandhill Cranes. Ever since then, when I saw the Sandhill Cranes, I thought of Tex.

Sending sympathy to Gennie and family.  I didn't know Tex well, but remember him as a nice guy who had a smile for all.  He clearly was a selfless man who did so much for the Wooster community.  May you find peace in all the wonderful memories you created with family and friends.

I'm sorry to hear of Tex's passsing.  I never really ran in the same crowd as Tex did, and I was always pretty much in awe of him--but somehoe he definitely touched my heart, because when I heard of his death, I felt a genuine sense of loss and sadness.  He seems to me a man who was amiable and modest, despite his many successes--and also a guy who had genuine good will for everyone.  There was always some real solidity about Tex.  Reliable.  Good-natuired.  A rock, if you will.  I like what DJ wrote: "A good man."  RIP, Tex.  I think that those of you who were good friends with Tex were very fortunate.

Have known Tex for over 60 years and his loss is very hard to accept. His legacy will be one of public service, generosity, classy, congenial, impressive career and a great family. Of course, he leaves legions of friends throughout Wooster as well as the country. RIP old friend, you made a difference and have been a great and faithful servant.
