Susan Freedman (Varbero)
Started to write this since Sunday; been full of emotion and now I'm trying to recollect it in tranquility (English major, of course), but it's difficult...
First, heartfelt thanks to Rick, Mariiyn, and all CHS classmates who did yeoman's service as usual to make sure we had a fabulous reunion, way too short, of course, especially for us out-of-towners, but so greatly anticipated and appreciated. I promise I will help next time, which I hope is in five years (or less)......
It's probably weird to tell you all that I have a great love for my fellow classmates, most of whom didn't know me back then and vice versa, but I don't care. Was so happy to speak to many of you Saturday, too. It would be great to get to know you more; we all seem very interesting people, don't we? (I'm sorry I didn't realize some of you stayed on in the bar afterward and could have extended the night a little more.)
I regret I didn't leave much of a mark in high school but it has left an indelible mark on me----not a tattoo, of course, just in my heart. (By the way, I killed at EP and Ogontz---in chorus, orchestra, and talent shows, but wasted my high school years, sadly, reading, smoking, and being a faux beatnik----I still read).Pure happenstance is responsible for my being able to attend junior and high school with you, and how lucky I am to have been a student in one of the top ten school systems in the country (especially then) and to benefit from a college-level education.
Sorry for the long-windedness.......Anyway, attending reunions is a unique way to be in a room with people who are all the same age and have a shared history, and at at this point in our lives it's wonderful to have the sense of feeling simultaneously young and old(er).
I'd be happy to see you if you're ever driving up the NY Thruway---I'm about three miles from Exit 18 (New Paltz). Call me (845-255-9662)! Or if any of you ever get together before the next time, let me know....... Everyone, stay as healthy as you can! GO IGGLES!
