Mallory, our Sweet MalloryShe will be sorely missed.
She gave me the courage to try out for a solo in Lancers. Something I never would have done if she hadn't felt either of us could have done it. Neither of us got the solo, but we gained a bond and some confidence.
Thank you, Mal. I think of you often and I miss ya!

Wow! What a shame! Mallory was a "friend to everyone"! She was one of those positive and encouraging people that makes a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with. What a loss!Michael Foote
The one person I would most want to see again, and she is gone. This took a long time to finally post. The last time I remember talking to her was in March of 1981. The college I was going to had just beat UCLA in "March Madness", and she called me to tell me she had been pulling for us as well. It seems USC loves anyone who beats UCLA in basketball. We ended up talking for several hours. I do miss you Mallory.Tina Porter (McIntyre)
I'm sorry to hear. We really enjoyed visiting at the last reunion.. You'll me missed.. My thoughts and prayers to your family. TinaLinda Underwood (Easterwood)
So hard to loose such a friend. Mallory and I knew each other since 4th grade. I have so many memories of Mal and her antics. In college we would call each other and compare notes. She rented a room in Watts and had helicopters flying overhead and I was in the middle of the quiet palouse. A little piece of trivia for you all: she was chosen for the women of USC calendar! Her escort from Watts to campus at night was none other that Mark McGuire - she would probably now have a word or too for him!
I remember spending a night in Vegas playing slots with her, she knew that town! When I was in Alaska and she was working in the bellows of a NYC newsroom she wrote to me that I lived where there were as many stars in the sky as she had jewish delis on the corner. I was so happy for her when she landed her dream job with A&E. Her husband, Steve Cangialosi, was a very kind individual and cherished Mal. He is a emmy award winning sports announcer in NYC - on his one of their first dates they ran into Mark McGuire and he couldn't believe that she knew him. She made an impression needless to say. It was so fantastic that she found someone so very special to share what little time they did have. Bless you heart Mal, miss you so much.
Rebecca "Bekki" Mulalley (1979) (Thacker)
This is Rebecca "Bekki" Mulalley Thacker (class of 1979). I have been added as a guest at the bottom of the roll call page, where I have added many wonderful photos of Mal for you to view. Mal was not only my best friend, but a "light in the lives of her friends, family and co-workers," and loved by every person she knew. Please go to the bottom of the roll call, and click on my name, to view photos of Mallory taken over the years.
Mal lived a full life, starting with being born in Hollywood, to a Hollywood family. Mallory also worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, for producer Norman Lear and later for the Arts and Entertainment Network. The character of "Mallory" on Family Ties (2008) was named after Mal! Her mother, Marcia (Henderson) Prestlien was an actress in Hollywood, and played "Wendy" in Peter Pan on Broadway, Mal's dad, Bob Ivers, was best known for his role as supporting actor in GI Blues with Elvis, but did many other movies with Jerry Lewis and many others, just to name a few. Mal would never brag, so I am doing that for her! Following Bob's death several years ago, both Mal and Leni attended a "tribute" to their late dad, who received "Best Supporting Actor" for GI Blues. A little known fact for most of you-Charlton Heston brought Mal home via Limo from the hospital after she was born...:-) Yes, they were Hollywood!
Mal was destined to be successful. In high school, loved the Lancers, being in the band and playing the flute, the trip to Hawaii, dragging the "Ave" in my old white Buick Wildcat, and those musicals! Mal could be dramatic and was in her element when on stage! (Just like her famous parents).
It seems just like yesterday, pre-functioning and getting ready for Mal's 10 year reunion...We met at grants pub with my parents and Bob....she was so excited to see all of you! We had so much fun getting ready; Bob was teasing us as Mal got ready...I did her make-up, and curled her beautiful, golden long hair....Mal really had come into her own! When Mal and I finished getting her ready, Bob could not believe his eyes and just hugged his little girl! Mal was so happy, successful and beautiful as you all remember from the 10 year! For her 20 year, Steve was proudly at her side. We again met at Grants for a quick reunion ourselves, with my parents and Bob again. Such happy times!
After high school, Mal attended USC and was a true Trojan! We were attending different Universities, and both in Sororities, but I will never forget the call that Mal had back and chest pains while walking across the USC campus, and after being hospitalized, they diagnosed Mal with Hodgkins Lymphoma. She had surgery and numerous horrible "cobalt" radiation treatments, but was cured. Then the checkups every 3 months, then every 6 months and then finally every year. We would call each other and always celebrated after each of those checkups that revealed the cancer had not returned. And it never did! After her bout with Cancer, Mal truly cherished every day and made the most of every day and lived her life to the fullest, giving 110% of herself to everything and everybody.
Linda above referenced about Mal being in Watts....Before Mal went through rush and was in her sorority, I visited her at her apartment in Watts! Oh my God! I will never forget Mal telling me, "Hon when you get out of bed at night, stomp your feet and make loud noises and that will scare the cockroaches away!!!" Needless to say we slept in the same room and I NEVER got out of bed during the night! We had sooo much fun on campus together and going out and watching the sun come up over the Ocean after staying up all night! Good times...we were so young!
Mal, like the "Unsinkable Molly Brown", never gave up and continued college and received her degree in Broadcast Journalism. I will never forget her working for CBS television in Hollywood after she graduated, working for Norman Lear's ACT III productions! Oh the stories she would tell about the celebs! I visited her in Hollywood, and we partied under the Hollywood sign! Mal had made sooo many new friends and her career was going up and up! She made major connections and moved to Las Vegas and worked for a station down there. I was able to visit her often and watch her in action! She was a show producer then, very talented and dedicated to her job. She covered many celebrity golf tournaments and actually dated a very famous golfer.
Moving up in the cutthroat world of broadcasting, Mal moved to New York City ( a major promotion) and began working at NY 1 News. That is where she dated and fell in Love with Steve Cangialosi , a New York City Sportscaster. It really was love at first sight for both of them! Mal was one of my bridesmaides and I was honored to be asked to be one of hers as well. Her sister Leni was Matron of honor! There is a funny story...We all were going to have a drink at the famous "Rainbow Room" in New York, a few days before the wedding, then I was going to go with several of her friends to a broadway show. I was soooo excited to see the Rainbow Room...Lots of celebs and "People who know People" go there to be seen! We were all dressed up...except dear Mal, who was in jeans and tennis shoes-Mal was never pretentious-The Rainbow Room had/has a strict dress code so we get off the elevator, the men are given dress jackets to wear, and then little Mal who has been hiding behind the rest of the group takes one step forward....Needless to say, they would not let her in.:-( She and Steve left to go back to do some last minute wedding arrangements, her dad had arrived anyway, and so I stayed to have my drink and had one for Mal too!
Mal and Steve were married in a beautiful church in Queens on April 1st, 1995 and the reception was beautiful on Long Island. The whole wedding was televised! Since both Mal and Steve worked and met at NYORK 1 News, they televised the whole wedding! My stay in New York was too much fun! Steve's family lived in Queens, and I stayed with his mom and dad while there! What a loving family! And oh how they loved our dear Mal!
Mal and Steve were the golden couple. They moved to Westport Connecticut where they purchased their home and remodeled, putting in a conservatory and new master bedroom, vacationed often in Kennebunkport, Maine (Mal loved the Lobster), and Stockbridge Massachusetts! Mal went to work for A&E in 1997. Mal became Managing Producer and to no ones surprise, received several more promotions. Life was good! Mal worked on many of the documentaries you still see on TV such as the one on Jeffery Dahmer. She would mail me copies of her documentaries to view.
As I look at the" last" Christmas Card sent in 2004 from Mal, which she had sent to my mom and dad, she stated, "A&E keeps me busy! Throughout the past year, we debuted some new "reality" shows..."Growing up Gotti, Airline, Dog the Bounty Hunter, First 48, and we secured the rights to re-broadcast the Fox series 24, beginning Fall 2005." Mal was so good at her job, and loved by her co-workers. Unfortunately, Mal passed , Fall, 2005.
I remember like it was yesterday, her call to me about a month before she was hospitalized. She said, "Hon I don't want you to be worried,.... but I have been feeling tired and seeing the DR., but I'm ok." I was horrified. There was no cancer so what could it be? Mal never, ever admitted she was sick, ever! I told her I would call her back, but she was hospitalized soon after that call. She became very weak and unable to speak by phone. I sent her gift boxes to the hospital, old photos of us, beanie babies, letters/cards for Steve to read her. Steve would hold the phone up to Mal's ear to hear my voice. I was in constant contact with Leni, her sister as well. Mal had just been transferred to a new hospital, when she passed peacefully with Steve by her side. Steve NEVER left Mal's side over the two-three months or so she was in the hospital and continuing to get worse. He did not work for the longest time. Mal was Steve's everything, as he was hers, and as she was to so many of us. I know each of you have wonderful memories of Mal and I look forward to reading them. Mal passed peacefully, at the age of 43, surrounded by the love of her life, her husband Steve, October 19th, 2005. As Mal would tell all of you now....."THE SHOW MUST GO ON!"

I have many memories of Mallory. I first met her my junior year, did this girl ever stop smiling?I remember her telling me that her dad interviewing Davy Jones of The Monkees and she sat there on a swing during the interview.
And I would find myself thinking of her when I worked with Davy & Mickey years later.
Other memories on band trips, seriously, did she ever stop smiling? Great kid and was sorry to hear of her passing.
