In Memory

James Matasic

POLAND – Jim Matasic, 61, passed away Nov. 4, 2012, at Hospice House, surrounded by his family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was born on June 22, 1951, in Poland, a son of Thomas and Francis (Certalic) Matasic.

He was a 1970 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School. Jim worked for Wean United Industries in Austintown for 23 years as an industrial machine assembler, before its closing, and later worked for Danielli Wean. He also owned and operated Precision Home Improvements. The last five years, Jim was proud to be employed by Brilex Technical Services in Youngstown, where he continued to assemble industrial machines.

Jim was a devoted car enthusiast and fully restored a 1952 award winning Chevrolet. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending his summers boating and fishing on Lake Erie. But, Jim’s true passion was spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Holy Family Church in Poland.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, the former Lucille Musolino, whom he married June 30, 1973. Together they had two children, Jim Matasic of Mentor on the Lake and Kim Matasic of Poland, and the love of his life, grandson T.J. Jim is also survived by his brother, Tom (Mary Ann) Matasic of Austintown; sister, Barbara Berchik of Struthers; brothers-in-law, Joe (Ann Marie) Musolino of Struthers and Rich Musolino of Poland. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joe and Sue Musolino; sister-in-law, Robin Musolino; niece, Chrisy Pavel; nephew, Jimmy Musolino; and Krista Musolino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
