When Richard Parsons died, Sharon Green Causely called and told me of his passing.  He died in June 1993.  I did not know him very well I am sorry to say.  But he is still missed.

Richard was part of the neighborhood posse on McKinley Street that was the foundation of my early childhood. It included the Warners -- Jim, Janet and Stephanie -- me and my growing passel of siblings, Shemans, Totaros and at various times Gauntletts, Dennises, Elbanowskis and Nyes. Summers were filled with evening games of hide and seek, walks through neighboring yards to Vickery's market, backyard carnivals and drama productions. And though he was a year or two older, he was, if not quite a boyfriend, my "first date" when, much to my delight and surprise, he invited me to go to a movie. I was 10 and his mother, of course, drove us downtown to the Martha Washington. It seemed quite remarkable to me at the time that the Parsons home included both a cat and a dog. Richard explained their accommodation to me this way: "The dog likes his nose. The cat likes her life."
