Cerisa Marie Cardenas went to be with our Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona as a result of a sudden illness. She was born on March 30, 1977 in Yuma. Her parents are Anthony and Yolanda Gutierrez.
Cerisa grew up in Yuma and attended School at Ronald Regan Elementary School, Crane Jr. High, Yuma High School Arizona Western College and Arizona State University. She was a Yuma High Choralair and cheerleader. She worked at Chandler Regional Medical Center as a Certified Nurses Assistant.
At age 11, Cerisa began dancing at DanceMakers where she later started dancing with the Dance Company, under the direction of Cindy Turrentine. Because of her love for dance and her love for her dance family she became a teacher at DanceMakers and Parks & Rec of Yuma and Phoenix. Cerisa was always involved in community events, ran marathons in Phoenix and San Antonio and she would walk for different causes like Heart Disease, Diabetes and others. Recently, she became an advocate for victim rights for abused children in Maricopa County.
Cerisa was so excited to be a new big sister to Emily, that anyone who knew her, knew how much love she had for her baby sister.
Cerisa is survived by her parents, Anthony and Yolanda Gutierrez of Yuma; sister Emily Gutierrez of Yuma; and many loving family and friends.
Cerisa is preceded in death by her Grandmother, Margarita Valdez Rodriguez; Grand Parents, Adolfo and Elvira Cardenas of Beeville, Texas. Cerisa was a very warm and giving person. She would light up the room with just a smile. She would give anything to help a person in need. She will be missed immensely.
Memorial Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 12:00p.m. Memorial reception will be at Inn Suites following the Mass.
