 Reverend David E. Rider, age 60, resident of 442 Spring Street, Cambridge Springs, Pa. died unexpectedly at the emergency room at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, Pa. on Friday evening, November 16, 2007. Born on December 3, 1946 in Butler, Pa., he was a son of the late Verne Rider and Jane Barber Rider. On October 3, 1959 he married the former Linda Joyce Ley and she survives. Rev. Rider graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. in 1968 receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology. He continued his education graduating from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1971 with a Master of Divinity Degree. From 1971 until 1977 he served as pastor of St. Paul and St. Benedict Churches, two churches in the Northern Cambria Larger Parish, Cambria County and from 1977 until 1981 he served as pastor of the Cambridge Springs Presbyterian Church. He then became a contract chaplain at Polk Center, Polk, Pa. continuing there until 2005 when he retired. During the past 25 years he also served for periods of time at Prebyterian Churches in Plumer, Wattsburg, Cooperstown, and again at Plumer where he preached last Sunday. In addition, he was employed by the Edinboro University Office for Students with Disabilities for over ten years. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with people whatever station of life they were in sharing and listening to their problems. He was an honorable retiree of Lake Erie Presbytery. Surviving family members in addition to his wife, Linda, of 38 years include a son, Steve Rider of Cockeysville, Md. and a daughter, Sally Rider-Mattocks and her husband, Jim of Ayden, N.C. and their daughter, Morgan Mattocks. Several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.
