I can remember visiting Schlatz's Bar so many times with my Dad, Dick's Mom always with a smile. Dick or his brother Tom passing through the bar finding out if Mom needed anything. One day Dick said lets go down in the basement and lift weights. We were 12 ,he was just a month older than me.His brother Tommie was already down there lifting and I thought ,man,Tommy's arms are huge.Dick takes the barbell and presses 85 lbs. ,hell, I don't think I weighed much more than that myself. Dick was kind, "I've been lifting awhile, just lift what you can "

My Uncle ,Aunt and cousins  lived right there near the bar and the bar itself ,gave me the opportunity to know Dick and Dick McCandless and Jim Schulick. We also went to McQuistion together.

It is extremely sad to see those we've known become memories. I saw him at our 50th reunion, same old Dickie Schlatz.

My sincere condolences to Dick's family and I expect he was an excellent man .
