Industrial Accident - Local Man Killed in Accident

Bedford Heights - An 18-year-old Newbury Township man was killed Tuesday in an industrial accident in this Cleveland suburb.

David J. Pesti of 14764 Westwood Drive was pronounced dead at Suburban Community Hospital after the accident, which occurred at Ameritech Inc at 26100 Richmond Road.  The incident occurred sometime in the late afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Pesti's body was taken to the Cuyahoga County coroner's office, where an autopsy was scheduled to be performed this morning, according to a spokesman in that office.  The spokesman said it would not be known when the autopsy report would be available.

According to a spokesman for Reed Nichols Funeral Home of Chagrin Falls, which is handling funeral arrangements, Pesti's family was told he apparently was electrocuted while operating a piece of machinery.

A Bedford Heights police spokesman said the incident is under investigation by the detective bureau of the department. Police, however, released no details of the incident as of Wednesday night.

A spokeswoman for Ameritech, which produces lubricants and recycles oil, said no company official was available Wednesday afternoon to discuss the incident.

Mary Pesti, Pesti's grandmother, said family members wanted him to be remembered for his involvement in baseball and golf in high school and his love of music, as evidenced by his involvement in different musical groups at Newbury High School.

Pesti was a 1986 graduate of Newbury.

Funeral services will be Friday morning at Reed Nichols Funeral Home, 87 East Washington Street, Chagrin Falls.

Dave was a good friend. He died very shortly after we graduated, it was a real tragedy and made me realize that life is short.
