Instant friendship from the day we met in 8th grade at Buchanan Junior High School. Remained friends all through school. Finally, saw him again for the 1st time at our 25th year Chamberlain High School Reunion and it was so great to reconnect. Met his lovely wife Betsy, and saw pictures of his two boys. He was so proud of his family. Dan was an awesome friend and athlete. He also loved to fish. He is and will be deeply missed by the many people who knew and loved him.

It is a very sad thing to have to write a memory for a friend that has passed from a life that he loved so much. Dan was a lover of all thinks fun. He had a great smile, a really great laugh, and a laid back attitude that so many of us wish we could inherit. Dan, you were a wonderful guy and I pray that you left behind (for your 2 boys) the fun loving qualities that so many of your friends loved about you. The world that we all remain in is such that your 2 boys will go a long way with those great qualities of yours. May you rest in peace and know that you are remembered as a good man that has gone too soon.

I tried so hard not to like Dan, but never found a good reason.  In hindsight, I'm sure it was just jealousy.  I never saw such a graceful athlete.  It always amazed me how natural football came to him, and how laid back he was off the field.  He never bragged.  It was like being embarrassed on the field by Spicoli.  I ran into Dan a few times down on Palm Island.  We hung out some, and he always extended an invitation to go fishing on his boat.  I wish I had taken the time.  He was a true gentleman, and I am glad we became friends.  Ryan Garrett
