POESTENKILL - Stanley Wetherwax, 69, of Poestenkill, died Sunday, February 26, 2006, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Mervin Wetherwax and Dorothy (Smyth) Wetherwax, stepson of the late Lillie (Granger) Wetherwax and husband for 30 years of June Duncan Wetherwax. He had resided most of his life in Poestenkill. He graduated from Troy High School, class of 1955. Mr. Wetherwax was a truck driver for Benson Brothers in Poestenkill for 25 years, retiring in 1996, and prior to that worked for the town of Poestenkill and on Cecil Duncan's farm on Lord Avenue in Brunswick. He was a member of the Evangelical Luthern Church of Poestenkill and enjoyed area stock car racing and mowing his lawn. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Bruce Gillam (Terri) of Willsboro; four sisters, Joyce Cannon of Troy, Doris Wolf of North Greenbush, Laura Saville of Troy and Lee Bateman of Troy; a brother, John Wetherwax (Maria) of Fayetteville, NC; his beloved dog, Sadie Mae; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Ave. in Troy, with Rev. Stephen Cordes, pastor, officiating.
