Poulin, Wilfred H. III
GRAFTON - Wilfred H. Poulin III, 78 of Grafton, and formerly of Troy, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023, at the Schenectady Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing following complications from a fall at home.
The son of the late John and Marjorie (Batza) Poulin, Wilfred was born on June 27, 1944, in Troy. He was raised in Troy and after marriage in 1967, Wilfred moved to Anchorage, Alaska for a year before moving back home to be near family. The Poulin family moved to Grafton in 1978 where they greatly enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Hiking, canoeing, fishing, and horseback riding were some of his favorite outdoor activities.
Wilfred received his education and graduated from Troy High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1967 and received an honorable discharge.
Mr. Poulin's employment history included auto sales at Hedley Cadillac in Troy, Jack Byrne in Mechanicville, and Cooley Volkswagen before working for New York State on the Erie Canal.
In 1984, Will suffered a severe accident at home which left him with permanent disabilities. As a result of the accident, he became a stay-at-home dad for his children. When his daughter Courtney (who was totally blind and autistic) came home from the State School for the Blind, Will became a constant and loving companion and caretaker for her. He was blessed with two beautiful and beloved granddaughters who spent holidays and summer vacations with their grandparents. He also greatly enjoyed his two German Shepherds.
There didn't seem to be any subject he wasn't well versed in. Will loved to read and was interested in sailing, and engineering, and was a great conversationalist. Before his accident he enjoyed off-road motorcycling on his Bultaco, shooting, fly fishing, and soaring a "jack-of-all-trades" and a "master-of-most."
Will was a born-again Christian who wasn't afraid to die and said he had many questions for his creator. "Until we meet again" signed, your loving wife Patty.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia (Kennedy) Poulin, the love of his life, whom he married on October 14, 1967, in St. Peter's Church in Troy. He was the devoted father of Courtney, Mandy (the late Kurt) Hiebaum and Jason Poulin; cherished grandfather of Isabella and Lily Hiebaum; and dear brother of Randy (Theo) Poulin and uncle of Ethan (Andrea) Poulin, all of Cape Cod, Mass.
Mrs. Poulin and her family wish to thank Hospice for their tender care of Will and compassion for our family, especially to Laura, RN, Chaplain Doug, and social worker Marsha, for their encouragement, care, many phone calls, and the surprise cake and flowers for our 55th wedding anniversary, and to the nurses and staff at the Schenectady Center.
In accordance with his wishes, Will has been cremated and there will be no calling hours. Inurnment with military honors was privately held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
