NORTH GREENBUSH – Karen Rose Monahan, age 62, died on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Cohoes, she was the beloved daughter of Shirley LeQue Monahan of North Greenbush and the late Edward V. Monahan. She was a graduate of Wynantskill Elementary School and Troy High School, Class of 1968. She attended Albany Medical Center School of Nursing but had to withdraw from the program shortly before graduation because of her Multiple Sclerosis. She worked for 33 years in the Data Processing Department at HVCC in Troy, retiring in 2002. She was a longtime communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in North Greenbush, an avid reader and was a volunteer at the Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy while residing at the nursing home. Karen always thought of others first and always saw good in everyone. Her smile and laughter will be remembered by all who met her. Although her life was restricted by M.S., she never questioned, “Why me.” Karen's family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Springs Nursing Home for the loving care they gave Karen. Special thanks to the staff of Albany Meds E3 and the Meds ICU for the care and compassion shown to her and her family. Survivors in addition to her mother include her son, David W. (Heather Daus) Murphy Jr. of Colonie, her granddaughter Zoë Rose Murphy of Colonie, her sister Colleen (Richard) Paradis of Melsose, her brother, Brian Monahan of North Greenbush, her uncles, William G. LeQue of Cohoes and Joseph Monahan of Troy, her Godmother and aunt, Marie (the late John) LeQue of Florida, her aunts, Eileen (the late William) Christopher of Clifton Park, Ann (the late William) Reinisch of Arizona, Sheila (the late Donald) LeQue of Troy, her best friend, Jayne Piche, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and special friends. A Memorial Mass for Karen will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Church in North Greenbush. Kindly omit flowers.
