Obituary for Mrs. Rebecca Straight-Kennett
On May 19, 2011 at her home in Alexandria, VA after a long battle with Metastatic Melanoma. Becki was born in Washington, DC and raised in Alexandria, VA.
A graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Sciences, she became the first woman licensed Funeral Director in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She began her career at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in 1970, where she worked for 17 years, which included her internship following graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School. In later years, she devoted herself to local civic and charitable organizations; most specifically United Community Ministries and Montebello Condominium Unit Owners Association.
She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Col. Douglas Kennett, USAF (Ret.); sister, Sharon Best of Alexandria, VA; brother Michael Straight of Warrenton, VA; stepsister Sandee Holland of Gilbert, AZ; stepbrother Byron Rimbey Toothman of Morehead City, NC; ten nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 W. Braddock Rd., Alexandria, VA 22302.
