Comments:
I went to college in St. Paul (ran track and CC), but after my junior year, I took a train out west, and stayed more than a year in the north Cascade mountains. After a brief time in Minneapolis, I went west again (this time in an old Renault). Finished college at the University of Washington in Seattle (degrees in French and Communications) and went to the south of France for a year. Came back and worked as a reporter at the Post-Crescent for nearly two years, then I headed west for the THIRD TIME (this time in a Volkswagen). Spent two years teaching French and completed a master's in French literature at the Universtiy of Washington. Lived a year in Paris, teaching at a university in Versailles and reading a lot, came home, got married, completed my ph.d coursework and continued teaching. My first son Eero was born in 2003. I went on leave from the university just before my son Henry was born last year.

I live in Seattle with my husband, Thom, who is an architect, our two sons and our cat Bunny. We spend a month every summer at the old family house on Lake Geneva. Wisconsin will always feel like home.
