Since I left Asheboro in 1960, I went to Guilford College, Elon College, Appalachian State, UNC-Wilmington, NC State and UNC-Charlotte. After college, I was a part of a consulting firm that was hired to do a patent fraud case for the State. This led me into being asked to coordinate the campaign on Succession for NC (where the Governor and Lt. Governor could serve more than 1 term). I then because an administrator for the NC Dept. of Transportation and was the liaison to the Legislature. In 1980, I was asked to establish the campaign for Gov. Jim Hunt to run against Sen. Jesse Helms. In 1981, I remarried and moved to New Bern where I still live. I moved next door to our present Governor, Bev Perdue, and have over the years done many things for her. I also was VP of an Aviation Fuel Co. that wholesaled aviation fuel in the SE US. In 1992, I was appointed a member of the NC Global TransPark board and helped establish its location in Kinston, NC. Later I became the director of the private arm of the TransPark and retired from that in 2008. Currently (because I got bored), I am a real estate agent in New Bern with Coldwell Banker Willis Smith. I don't have to work too hard because the market is terrible. I currently serve on the NC Battleship Commission which is lots of fun. I am active in many things and love living in New Bern. My home is on the Trent River. My son lives in Asheboro so I come back to town quit often. In 1987, my daughter died of a stroke. She had just graduated from college and was in Florida when it happened. All I can say is, having a child died is the worst thing in the whole world. All of us were tramatized. My sisters (who also graduated from AHS) now live in Marietta, Ga. (Cathy) and Sumter, SC (Janet). My parents are both deceased - so I am now the oldest living Richardson - that is scary. I am currently single. I was married to Hugh Roberts (deceased) and married and divorced to Robert L. Stallings. Two marriages is enough and I enjoy my single life. I am so sorry that I will miss our 50th reunion. My best friend's only child is getting married and I am in charge of all the rehearsal party events and lots of things on the day of the wedding (the same day as our reunion). Asheboro taught us many good lessons - hard work, honesty and happiness. I am glad I grew up there and am proud of all the improvements that are currently taking place on Sunset St. and Fayetteville St. When I worked for Gov. Hunt, I helped Sen. Russell Walker locate the NC Zoo in Asheboro and I return often to see how it is growing. I look forward to hearing from you. Best, Nancy

School Story:

Wow, there are so many stories, I don't know where to start. Since I was born and raised in Asheboro, my stories go back to 1st grade - Mrs. Poole's class w/Patricia Neal who was always so much smarter than me. She was a "red reader", I was a "blue" reader. We started school at First Baptist Church. In 2nd grade, we moved to First Methodist Church and rode a bus to Fayetteville St. School for lunch. I told stories on the bus. Going to Fayetteville St. in the 3rd thru 8th grade was such fun. The people from Park St. School came and we all got to be friends. My first boyfriend in the 6th grade was Billy Lane and he liked Lee Page first, Tommy Ann second and then me. In the 8th grade, we had a club called the "BeeBop Club" and there were about 14 of us. We often met in Jane Chisholm's basement - and waited for the boys to come around. At AHS, our BeeBop gang stayed best friends and we did lots of fun things. I was a majorette my Freshman year and a JV cheerleader. Of course, being from Asheboro, we loved our sports teams. My sophomore year I became a varsity cheerleader with Jane, Lee Page, Shirley and Tommy Ann. I think it was my freshman year, Jane, Lee, Barbara Harris and I were in a Spring Festival and we sang "The Asheboro Girls". Junior and Senior Prom time was so much fun. My junior year the theme was Shangrila and we cut out 10,000 stars. We rode in the Christmas Parade in a convertible one year and on a float that we decorated the next. We had pajama parties - I still have pictures of one at my grandmother's house and are they funny. We had a great time growing up in Asheboro. We learned to respect out elders, go to church on Sunday, work hard, and enjoy life. Congratulations to all my friends on the 50th anniversay of our graduating from AHS. GO COMETS!!!
