In Memory Of

Terri Delaney (Ganey) - Class Of 1972

AUBURN — Teresa (Terri) Ellen Ganey, 62, passed away peacefully at home amongst family and friends on Sunday, June 19, 2016. She was the dedicated and loving wife of Thomas, who she had recently celebrated 40 years of marriage with.

Along with Tom, Terri is survived by her son, Shawn; daughter, Meghan; sisters, Shari Delaney, Liz (Bob) Trufant, and Patricia (Ronald) Hess; sisters-in-law, Ann (Bob) Padula and Marybeth (Ed) Galka. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in Auburn, Terri was the daughter to John “Butch” Delaney and Margaret “Peg” Friedel. She attended Auburn High School. Up until 2013, Terri was employed by the City of Auburn as a school crossing guard on the corners of South and Clymer. She was remembered there for her infectious smile and instant wave to all those who honked.

Family and friends were Terri’s number one passion and delight and she always wanted to make sure they were cared for before herself. Terri also enjoyed crafts, beach vacations, Syracuse Orange basketball, and the New York Mets. She grew up spending summers on her parents’ front porch and continued that love onto her own on Locust Street. She wasn’t just a mother to Shawn and Meghan, but to so many others who she insisted on calling her “Mom” also. When you look up the word “inspiration” in the dictionary, Terri’s picture could be found beside it. The last 3 1/2 years, Terri worked daily at conquering a battle that not many could fight. She did it with such pride and dignity, and absolutely no complaints. She made it clear that every day was accomplished by prayers, patience, and perseverance. Unfortunately this latest battle was too much for her already weak body to handle and she is finally at peace.

Terri is reunited with all of those who predeceased her including her parents, in-laws, several aunts and uncles, and her fur companion, Savannah.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 in Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Road, Auburn. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 23 in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be held immediately following the celebration of Terri’s life in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Deshaeis Stroke Research Foundation, Hospice of the Finger Lakes, Caring Bridge Donation Processing Center, or Matthew House.

Terri & Sherri Delaney; who could forget these twins? I grew up with them at Holy Family grade school & then Auburn High school. In grade school I had a crush on one of them, I just cannot remember which one! I am saddened to learn of Terri's passing. However, I am happy that, in reading the above narrative, she had a full and happy life. The loss of such a bright light must have left a difficult void in the lives of those with whom she was closest. I wish peace and comforting memories of a wonderful person.     KC Delahanty
