Susan Elizabeth (McKay) Lockhart

1957 - 2017

LOCKHART, Susan Elizabeth Lockhart was reunited with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 30th, 2017 in her hometown of Austin, Texas after a valiant battle with an aggressive form of cancer. Susan was born in Austin, August 29th, 1957 to Deanna Gorham and Ronald McKay and spent most of her life here in the capital. Susan married Gary Steven Lockhart on June 3rd, 1978 and later graduated from University of Texas, with honors, in 1980, before beginning her 32 year career as an elementary teacher. Susan spent her life teaching and inspiring others in and out of the classroom. With a deep love and belief in Jesus, she was always the first to help anyone in need and worked towards honoring Him by being the best spouse, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor she could be. She succeeded by anyone's standards. After retirement, she spent her time being a "stay at home Gramaw" to her three grandsons, enjoying and relishing in time with them and Gary. Susan truly loved life and cherished every moment with the people that she loved, encouraging us all to do the same. She never met a stranger, touching so many people's life. Her impact on the world was apparent in the relationships she left behind. Her family and friends will greatly miss her welcoming smile and her joyous, contagious spirit. Susan is survived by her husband, Gary, their three children Stephen, Jason (Shayna), and Jenna; their grandchildren Brayden, Caleb, Christian, Baby A & B; her mother, Deanna Gorham-Wilson and her stepfather Charles Wilson; her siblings Diane Cannon (Gary), Mike McKay, Scott McKay, Linda McKay, Kevin Wilson (Stephanie), and Kristen Gruene. She is also survived by a plethora of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Susan was predeceased by her father Ronald McKay; her maternal grandfather Dean Gorham and grandmother Theresa; her paternal grandfather Johnny McKay and grandmother Irene Fancher. Visitation will be held at Beck's Funeral Home on Thursday, August 3rd at 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park, TX 78613 between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at Beck's Funeral Home (same location) on Friday, August 4th at 10:00 am. A graveside service will be held after the funeral at Liberty Hill Cemetery at 16101 W.
