Kathleen Ann (Kate) Lappin (Wurgler) VIEW PROFILE

Kathleen (Kate) Lappin Wurgler, 57
Kathleen (Kate) Lappin Wurgler died peacefully at the Gosnell Hospice House on June 7, 2016.
Kate was born on March 12, 1959, and lived in Babylon, N.Y. She married James N. Wurgler Jr. on Sept. 12, 1987. She graduated as a nurse in 1982 from Mount Saint Mary College and worked as an emergency room nurse for 34 years until her recent retirement from Maine Medical Center. Kate and Jim raised their four children in Gray, until she took up residence in what she referred to as her "dream home" in South Portland.
Kate was very active in her church, Saint Gregory's, where she loved acting as a Eucharistic Minister and singing out of tune. Her other loves included gardening, cocktail hour, and rearranging the furniture. Although her efforts to master the art of interpretive dance were honorable, she never quite got a handle on it.
Kate always said that her one true hobby was being a mother to her children, and at that she truly was outstanding. Regardless of having such a large family, Kate was always eager to take in or offer help to anyone in need, whether it was a meal or a place to stay. Her legacy could arguably be defined by her generosity and sense of humor, and a laugh so contagious and genuine she could light the darkest of days.
Kate was predeceased by her mother Kathleen Brant Lappin, and survived by her husband of 28 years; four children, Hannah, James, Grace and Tess; her one grandchild, Brayden; and her father, Joseph Lappin. Kate also leaves behind six siblings including Tricia, Jane, Mary, John, Maureen, and Thomas; and many adored nieces and nephews. Kate loved attending our high school reunions and worked to make them extra special.  She will be missed and will remain in our hearts.
