Sheri Varnado Beck

Michael and I were married in 1991. He is still my high school sweetheart! We both graduated from LSU. I taught 1st grade for 5 years and then retired to stay home with our girls and teach them. I have just finished teaching our youngest daughter. We have lived in LA, TX, CA, NV, AZ and now NY. Michael is the supervisory chaplain at a federal prison. We like traveling and enjoy exploring the great outdoors.

So, I guess that nerd day senior yearbook pic means I don't have much chance of making it to the Supreme Court either now.

Looking forward to seeing fellow PBS alumni this weekend. I'm very thankful for my PBS experience.

I've wondered over the years how many of you went to PBS under similar circumstances as Julie and I did. We were raised American heathen--to be as good & responsible as we could, but heathen nonetheless (my mom would acknowledge it). The first time I sat in Ms. Johnson's class in August of 1984 was the first time I ever opened a Bible, much less heard any teaching on it.

Simply put, Julie and I were sent to PBS because mom didn't want us bused way across town. Seeds were planted in those classes I had with Ms. Johnson & Mrs. Lynas, in chapel services and in different experiences I had with teachers, coaches and fellow students. God saved me by grace through faith in April of my freshman year.

I remember Bridgette and Dawn at the end of Mrs. Kuykendall's World History class one day trying to help me understand the Bible says Jesus was God in the flesh. I was hardheaded & incredulous. They were right.

One last confession before we get to see our fellow Eagles face to face...

My freshman year homeroom was Mrs. Matheny's English class. My first "book report" for her in my new Christian private school was on Stephen King's Children of the Corn--one of the featured films on Cablevision's movie channel in the fall of '84. Her kindness and patience with me are some of the many seeds that would bloom later that year.

I thank the Lord for her, all our teachers, coaches and faculty, and for all of you.
