On Sunday afternoon 21 Oct 2012 Barbara called me to tell me that Mike passed away on Saturday 20 Oct 2012.
Then I talked to Barbara on Monday about what type of funeral service was going to be held and she told me that Mike did not want any type of service. She said that he was cremated that day – Monday 21 Oct 2012. His son sent an email that said there would be memorial service for him on November 17 at 1 P.M. at Angelo's Hall in Columbia, CA. It is attached to the backside of the Columbia House Restaurant at 22738 Main St Columbia, CA 95310.
Mike and I having been communicating back and forth for the past several years and I knew Mike had some heart issues for about 20 years.
Mike and I went to Morgan Park Military Academy in Chicago in 1953 and 1954. In 1955 I moved to San Carlos. In 1958 Mike moved to San Carlos and was staying with his sister that lived right up the street from where I lived. I never told him where I moved. It was just a coincidence that he and his mother moved to the same city as my family.
I tried to call him about once a month to see how he was doing and the last time I talked with him he sounded pretty good. He told me that he is on oxygen at night and really made him feel better.
He will be deeply missed by me – I knew Mike for 59 years. He is the one that helped convinced me to join the Marine Corps. His brother was a Captain in the Marine Corps and was killed in a aviation training exercise off the coast near El Toro. Mike brother was a Marine Pilot. We both worshiped his brother and after his death we wanted to be just like him and that is why we joined the Marine Corps. Mike got out after his 4 years and I made a career out of it.

I didn't know Mike at Carlmont, but I never pass a Marine honor guard without stopping and saluting...we are all brothers...Semper Fidelis Mike.
