I attended CCS the very first year of its existence and the year after - my 5th and 6th grade years. I started the 7th grade at CCS, but for the 2nd semester moved to Linton and Switz City, where I finished the year. I went back to CCS for the 1st semester of my 8th grade year.

We then moved to Vincennes, where I finished the 8th grade and started high school but again moved - this time, I moved in with my biological mother. I finished the 9th grade at Owen Valley, in Spencer.

Moving back in with my parents, I attended BHSS in my sophomore year. I only attended South half of that semester because I but quit school. (Too far behind from all of the moves, etc.) I went back to South in my junior year, intending to really get my act together and go to college, but I again quit half-way through that year, and didn't return. I got my G.E.D. when was 26.(A real "success story", huh? lol)

Getting married a month after turning 17 and raising kids by 19, I remained a working mother until my divorce in 1993. Our kids were 2, 4 & 6.
The same year of my divorce (and getting my G.E.D) I was accepted into Ivy Tech's nursing program. I had to withdraw due to finances. I was getting married to Tom Dyar, thus losing the financial help needed to go to school as a single mom. I had to go back to work full-time. But Tom was worth it!! =-)

Tom and I are now empty-nesters, so it is finally my turn to get an education! (Finally!) I am currently back at Ivy Tec but attend part time, due to my full time job at Wylie's Floor Covering.

I am now a sophomore in the Liberal Arts program and am on board to transfer to IU this fall, to apply to the School of Journalism. I hope to minor in music, sociology, or both.

My aim is to become an advocacy journalist, enlisting Isaiah 58 and Matthew 25 into everyday life: dealing bread to the hungry and taking up the cause of the needy/afflicted/oppressed, etc. If we share the burdens we can do SO much more than any one of us can do alone. But we need to both be fully aware of the needs, and how to help.

I believe that Christians are called to work in their communities; whether we help our own neighbors, are elected to public office, or something in between. In fact, what we read in Is. 58 and Matt. 25 ("This Fast" and the parable of the sheep and the goats), I believe, is not a mere suggestion, but it is our reasonable service to minister to people's needs. (I also believe that this is more what that scripture refers to, rather than our dress code)
Christians are expected to be of the most generous, hospitable people on earth. I'm still working on it, but my goal is to be a True Christian: To be like Jesus.

Favorite passage: Ezekiel 16; 4-14
Favorite scripture: Ezekiel 16; 6 (and 8)

School Story

My fondest memory is probably of Sis. Schoolcraft teaching us the song; "I'm a peddler".

"I'm a peddler, I'm a peddler, I'm a peddler
from Connecticut!
I'm a peddler, I'm a peddler, and don't you want to buy?
Many goods have I in store
so listen while I name them or'
so many goods you never saw before!
So very many goods
you never saw before
so listen while I name them or'!

Here are pins
papers and needles and pins!
Sauce pans and new baking tins!
Any of which I will sell you
Also,
Here are the seeds of asparagus
lettuce, beets, onions and peppergrass
seeds of a well-known society
seeds of all kinds of variety
Tiddle-dum, tiddle-dee, rum-tum-tum
Tiddle-dum, tiddle-dee, rum-tum-tum
Tiddle-dum, tiddle-dee, ring tum-tum
Tiddle-dum, tiddle-dee FADDLE WEE!!!!"

And of course;
"Study War No More"

Choir was my very favorite part about CCS. And I loved Chapel, too. I didn't win anything for memorization of the scriptures, but I still remember most of what we memorized back then today. I love the way it instilled the Word into my heart, as well as a love for memorization.

The day the windows were all blacked-up with newspaper and we all had to whisper because "they" might come and take us (Christians) away really made an impression on me. They said they were confiscating all of our Bibles. I knew that it was just an enactment, but it really made me think -- and I appreciated both my freedom and my school a lot more after that!

Oh ... and Rhonda, Angie and Julie singing "It's the real thing" (Coke, and Jesus!) on the trip we went on, especially. I thought that was the neatest thing in the world - the harmony they had, that is. Of course, I liked the song, too!

Those 50 cent burritos were my favorite food lol
