Comments:

When both of our children were in school, I went back to college and got my elementary teaching degree. Wayne had kept encouraging me to go back to school and I am so glad he did.

I retired after teaching for 25 years. I taught second grade for Mississinewa Community Schools in Gas City. I had two years in fourth grade but because of class size I went back to second grade. Being a teacher was the last thing I thought I wanted to do but I can honestly say I loved every day. As any teacher knows, it certainly isn't boring.

We have five grandchildren which live within 45 minutes from our home. Steve has four Kelsey 20, Shelby 17, Dan 16, and Karly 11. They live near Rochester, In. Kim has one son Mitch who is 17 and they live in Marion. He goes to Mississinewa High School so a lot of his classmates are my last class I taught before I retired.

Wayne and I both retired in 2001 and have been enjoying retirement. We have done some traveling with friends which is always fun.

We moved to the country when Wayne accepted his last superintendency at Maconaquah School Corporation. We enjoy living in the country very much but he has told me no more flower beds. I'm not sure about that yet. I always see another flower I want to add to the yard.

It certainly doesn't seem like 50 years have passed since we walked the halls of BHS. High school was a great time.

School Story:

What I remember was walking into the auditorium to practice for Stunt Night and Mr Egloff and Mr. Purl were dressed up in their outfits to do "Purple People Eater". I don't remember what Mr. Egloff wore that night but Mr. Purl had a black leather jacket, a hat, and sunglasses. He had the look of an unsavory motorcycle rider. Needless to say, they startled me and I think I might have yelled.

I had the opportunity to work in the high school office for Mr. J.O. Smith. It was very strange to me when Wayne was superintendent at Hamilton Heights School Corporation and Mr. Smith was superintendent at Western School Corporation. I couldn't bring myself to call him anything but Mr. Smith. He would always be Mr. Smith to me. It always amazed me how much he remembered about being at Brazil High School. He sure had a better memory than I did.
