Mark Adams

Mark Adams January 23, 1956 to December 22, 1974 An 18-year old man died early Sunday in a house fire of undetermined origin at 2013 Jacobson Blvd. Mark Adams son of Warren Adams, of Blaine, was found dead in a bedroom of a one-story frame house belonging to James R. Hunt of the same address. The North Perry Fire department answered the alarm at 5:55 a.m. When firemen arrived Adams' bedroom was fully engulfed in flames, according to North Perry Chief Carl Weyand. Weyand said Huff was awakened by the smell of smoke. He opened the door of Adams' smoke-filled room but could not see no sign of Adams. After rousing his wife, they phoned the fire department from a neighbor's home. Bremerton Police officer Bob Peck was first to arrive at the scene. He attempted to gain entry to check the bedroom again, but smoke and flames forced him to abandon the attempt. Weyand said the fire was confined to the one bedroom, but the remainder of the house received extensive damage from smoke and heat. It took the firemen about 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Weyand who arrived just ahead of the first fire engine, said the bedroom "was totally involved. There were flames coming out the windows." Adams' body was found on the floor between his bed and a window after the flames were extinguished. Weyand said he was sure that the fire started in the bedroom, adding he believes Adams was probably dead before smoke awakened Huff. Causes of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal's staff. Adams was a distant relative of the Huffs, and was staying with them while working in Bremerton. Born Jan. 23, 1956, in Ephrata, Adams had attended schools in Bremerton and was employed at a Bremerton moving company at the time of his death.
