We're not old!!!  Just getting better with age.

I agree with both Marta & Dennis. When I think back that it has been 50 years (almost), since high school, that makes me feel old. But on the other hand, Dennis has a good point, we are getting better, and to add to that, wiser. We only thought we had the wildcat by the tail when we were young, but experience has taught us better. Live & Learn!!

I really do hope that we have some type of get together to see everyone for the 50 years since we graduated.

I agree that there should be a 50th Anniversary Class Reunion. It would be great to reconnect with my fellow athletic and instrumental music participants, and others as well. Still working full-time and residing at Dash Point I'll, of course, be of no help in the planning and execution. I would like to see a well-deserved classy event, perhaps at a hotel (helpful for out-of-town attendees). I have no issue if this is a ticketed event to help pay for any associated costs. Perhaps a picnic somewhere the next day would also be fun. Regardless, it should be special!

Hello class of 1974!  As you know Ken Storm and Linda Hoyt, both instrumental in helping with the class reunions, have both passed away.  I had all the information of contact lists and supplies relinquished to Kenny before he passed away, as I am now living out of WA State.  Whomever would like to pick up the gauntlet in scheduling any furture reunions will need to contact Shirley Storm, Kenny's widow, and get the thumb drive and materials from her.  I will not be available to work or coordinate on a 50th reuniuon.  I wish all of you the best and perhaps I'll see you at future reunions.  Anna

Hello: Looking forward to a 50 year reunion in 2024. I don't know if I will recognize anyone though.  I may be able to assist in planning if you need help. I am still local in Poulsbo.  I do like the idea of a nice hotel for the venue to accommodate out of town folks.  Kathryn Barto ( aka Kathy Walker)

Our 1973 West High Football team has been selected as a member of the 2023 Class of the Kitsap County Sports Hall of Fame. Undefeated in the 9 game regular season and ranked #2 in both state AAA polls, we lost to Evergreen in the semi-final round of the inaugural High School Football Playoffs.

The induction event will be hosted by the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo. Social Hour will begin at noon with lunch served at 1:00. The event is free for team members and $50 for guests. Player reservations and guest tickets must be purchased by Thursday, January 25th (www.kitsapathleticroundtable.org). Some of us are staying at the nearby Suquamish Clearwater Resort.

RSVPs (so far): Dick Ottele, Paul Morgan, Gordy Jackson, Mike O'Brien, Kent Phippen, Dave Snow, Joel Wannebo, James Walker, Bill Hobaugh, Bob Hamre, Bob Steen, Larry Dahl, Bruce Fingarson, Lanny Dowell, and Bob Izzi... so calling on more players to join us for this historic event!  Please let me know if you can make it at snow.mclain@comcast.net. Go Wildcats!

Tim:  I donated $100 via go-fund-me.  Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on this site... especially since I'm on LinkedIn and NOT on facebook.  Gary Walden mentioned an additional event Saturday at the Wig Wam Pub in Gorst... is this accurate?  Sounds like we're pulling out all the stops and going high-end.  I'll have to dust off my tuxedo!  Seriously, thanks to you - and others - for orchestrating this.  jds

Great Job in getting the reunion set up. I was hoping since this was our 50th, we HAD to have something to help celebrate surviving high school, and all the things life has thrown at us for the last 50 years.    I plan on attending, looking forward to seeing everyone and catching up.

Good job 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee. Special thanks to Tim, Paul, Ken and Jim! I've already booked my hotel rooms for Friday and Saturday nights.

It was great seeing my former teammates, and others, when our Wildcat Football Team was inducted into The Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2023 in February at Kianna Lodge in Paulsbo by the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable.

We had a great turnout, with fly-ins from across the U.S. and England. I trust the turnout for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations will be equally impressive. It was fun spending the night at the Swinomish Clearwater Resort and I hope a number will be spending the night at the Best Western Beach Hotel.

A reminder of next months reunion. Drop a line and let us know who is coming, Thanks.

1974 Catz, your committee has succeeded. We now have the final plan for our 50th reunion. Its going to be great to see everyone and you need to be a part of it. We would like to thank all who donated to the GoFundMe .com it made a major difference in planning the weekend.

We will have a 2-day trip, yes, and we have reserved the Silverdale Hotel for Saturday. It’s a great location and I hear the firepit is still there. We are still accepting donations which will go towards more choices. So, the plan is: Friday July 19 – Meet at the Cloverleaf. Casual and pizzas provided, drink chit included. Discussions of bad hips, knees, etc. discouraged.

Saturday July 20 – Meet at the Silverdale Best Western Hotel. Casual + and an excellent Island Special buffet. Get this, Kahlua pork, Teriyaki, Yakisoba (not the city), and Hawaiian rolls. No-host. Add summer weather and we are in for a swell time. There will be no cost for these events. We are working with donations only, again, please contribute.

One ask..please spread the word!

We are not mailing out notices this year and many are not FB users. Share on your FB, Instagram, X, or AOL, let’s get the word out. We are keeping this 1974 only, why not? Aren’t we the best class of the 70’s? We think true. See you there Catz – Paul, Kenny, Tim, and Jim.

Thanks again to the Reunion Committee for organizing this monumental 50th Anniversary Weekend! Well done indeed (and thanks for listening to feedback; greatly appreciated)!

I have reservations Friday night at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Bremerton and Saturday night at Best Western Plus Silverdale Beach Hotel. I hope many others are spending Saturday night. We'll have a blast!

You'll have to ask me and Gary Walden about our recent Rotary-based trip to Guatemala (we returned June 2nd). Part of a team of 14 for Hands for Peacemaking, we assembled and installed 110 clean-air wood-burning stoves and water filters in Blanca Flor... a remote village 16 hours north of the capitol via bus.

Reunion Update.

Both nights events start at 6pm.

Friday at the Cloverleaf the semi-private back room is scheduled until 10pm. But as always if you wish to stay later the bar in front of the building is scheduled to close at 2am.

Saturday at the Silverdale Hotel is almost the same. Except our private room and patio closes at 9pm. They do have a small adjoining bar, however, it is scheduled to close at 9pm.

There seems to be some confusion about tickets and RSVP'ing.... There isn't any tickets or official RSVP'ing. We (your ragtag last-minute reunion committee) found nobody who wanted to sell tickets, collect money, mail or email classmates, open a bank account, do accounting, bla bla bla etc etc. So, we went the donation route. Yes, some will pay/donate (and thank you to those special few who have), and some won't. These are the cards we have been dealt throwing this function together at the last minute.

https://www.gofundme.com/f/1974-classy-class-reunion

BUT, if you could let one of us know or drop a line on one of the social media platforms that you are coming that would be fantastic for planning.

PLEASE REMEMBER, these events are funded SOLELY by your donations to the Go Fund Me account or dropping off a donation to Jim, Paul, Ken or Myself. We will be accepting donations both nights of the reunion but would appreciate any donations prior to the events for obvious reasons.

At this moment in time, at the Cloverleaf event, we will be serving 25 assorted pizzas' and handing out one drink token to the first 100 1974 classmates who show up ..... if we get that many. Self-serve name badges will be available and Janet (Skelly) Garguile has volunteered to be our host/greeter. We are hoping to find a host for Saturday, no promises.

Saturday at the Silverdale hotel we are planning a casual Island buffet for 100, but hopefully more depending on the flow of donations the next few weeks and a no host bar. The Hotel has dedicated the entire restaurant and adjoining patio to our function. Paul Wright has stepped up to be the Master of Ceremony, but there is no "set program" at this time, unless you want to put one together.

Thanks for listening and please reach out with ANY questions by email, social media, cell or show up on Kenny doorstep at 123 Main St. Thanks, Tim Calnan

I hadn't planned on attending our 50th Class Reunion as a widower and this won't be any easier to read than it was to write. Barbara and I married in November of 1990 and we lost her in November of 2023.

We had a wonderful life together until her tragic accident on June 1, 2014. It was a typical Sunday: tennis at the club (at 5'10" she covered the court well), sailing the Mistral (moored nearby) on Commencement Bay & East Passage, then dinner on our Dash Point deck overlooking Vashon & Maury Islands.

Later that night she fell and hit her head on our steep driveway. Emergency brain surgery was followed 8 hours later by surgery on the opposite side of her head. We spent the first 8 months in 4 different hospitals and a skilled nursing center. She took up residence in an adult family home in February of 2015.

She passed away in her sleep in that very same room 8 years later. It was a shock though not a surprise, for she had done well that morning in PT at the UPS School of Physical Therapy. Being a nice day we did a "walk & roll" on campus and sang songs. Having a work obligation, I didn't visit her that evening as usual.

I married well! Barbara graduated #2 in her class at Whitman and was awarded a prize for her thesis at UW. Like me, she was a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Guatemala 1979-82 for me and Thailand 1982-84 for her). She was a legislative authority on both fiscal and policy issues for both higher education and K-12.

We were world travelers: 30 countries for me and 24 for her (16 of which we visited together). We were going to retire at 62 & 58 and spend more time outside the country... and likely buy a larger sailboat. Things changed in a nanosecond and we carved out the best life possible, trying to make lemonade from lemons.

I shared this with my former Wildcat Football teammates this year prior to our gathering to celebrate our induction into the Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame. Thankfully, it gretaly reduced the number of times I had to tell this story. My hope is that it has the same effect during our 50th Class Reunion celebration.

Thanks for your compassion and understanding. I look forward to seeing many of you and hearing your stories. Best Regards, David

Thanks to Tim, Jim, Paul and Ken for orchestrating an enjoyable 50th Class Reunion.

One of my highlights was reconnecting with Joel Herche - PhD, former college professor and former owner, along with his French wife Martine, of Pilgrim Vineyard - producing award-winning Zinfandel in Lodi, California. It's a good feeling when friends succeed and he was one of many.

Thanks to all who attended; it was great catching up. Best Regards, David

PS: looking forward to seeing the group photos so please post (I don't do Facebook). jds
