Dean Loften dies after a brief illness

Dean J. Loften, 32, a 1974 graduate of West High School and son of Arland Loften and Priscilla Loften died yesterday in San Francisco following a brief illness.

The senior Loften is business manager of The Sun.

He was born March 24, 1956, in Bremerton and attended Crownhill Elementary School. He graduated with scholastic honors from West High in 1974

In 1978 he graduated magna cum laude from Seattle Pacific University, where he was elected into the Alpha Kappa Sigma honor society. He served as president of the Centurions, a campus support group. He also was seleceted for "Who's Who Among Students in America Universities and colleges" for 1977-78.

He received degrees in business administration and psychology from the university.

Following his graduation, Mr Loften pursued a career in marketing and for the past four years he was marketing manager at Landor's Associates, a worldwide design consulting firm based in San Francisco.

Mr. Loften maintained enthusiastic interest in his magic act, which he began developing at a early age, performing professionally as well as for charities.

Survivors include his parents Arlan & Priscilla Loften of Silverdale.

Arrangements ar pending at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Ellen Marie Shay

Dean was always kind and friendly and helpful.  He was one of the first people I talked to when I moved to Bremerton.  I remember him being hospitalized for ulcers even when we were in high school.  I am sorry he is gone.
